Re: What remains when the nidanas cease?

Is nidana the pali word for the sense media including the mind? No, they are the twelve items that make up the commonest way of describing dependent arising: ignorance, formations, consciousness ... birth, aging and death. The six sense bases are just one nidāna. Thanks for dispelling a little bit ...

Tetralemma simplified part 2

With my previous post as background and explanation of the structure of a truth table and my claim that the tetralemma has the same structure as the truth table.....with that I'll move to the tetralemma itself. There is more than one occurance of the tetralemma in the suttas and I will use the one f...

Re: What remains when the nidanas cease?

Is nidana the pali word for the sense media including the mind? I'll answer assuming this is correct. Some people define the nidanas to be the sense media arising conditioned by ignorance. They then say that what remains when the sense media arising through ignorance do not arise is the sense media ...

This is for those who have no training or understanding of formal logic, mathematics, etc.....so they find this discussion unhelpful: The tetralemma comes from the very most basic part of what is known as a "truth table". A truth table (go look at wikipedia but it won't be a simple explan...

Re: Any real life examples these days of Tetralemma (Catuskoti) fourfold negation? What would be the fifth ('true') corn

I'll return to continue my simple explanation of the tetralemma but for now I think I have a modern day example of a tetralemma where all the possible are negated: The two statements are: 1. is a failed attempt red? 2. is a failed attempt blue? Since it is inappropriate to discuss a color with respe...

Re: The Dhamma is simple (if we want it to be)

(From DN15) I have heard that on one occasion the Blessed One was living among the Kurus. Now, the Kurus have a town named Kammasadhamma. There Ven. Ananda approached the Blessed One and, on arrival, having bowed down to the Blessed One, sat to one side. As he was sitting there he said to the Blesse...

There is no way to show that there is anything at all
Never has been, never will be
This may seem unsatisfactory

From the Kalama Sutta
So, as I said, Kalamas: 'Don't go by reports, by legends, by traditions, by scripture, by logical conjecture, ......etc.....
For examples of why logical conjectures are suspect take a look at sutta DN1.

In the suttas isn't the tetralemma always about exists and does not exist? If it covers something else can you bring the reference?
