Re: Not self - Ven. Yuttadhammo got it wrong too?

So Buddha has to come to this world to teach us that everything is not under your control? Is this the biggest discovery of Buddha on that night he enlightened? Does he have to practice eons to learn this? Is this what Buddha taught in Anatta Lakhana sutta? Whoever that Buddha was a very stupid one...

Re: Self is an Illusion

Self (or sense of self) arises. IMO this is a vital distinction which is often glossed over. Self and sense of self , these are quite different things. These two are taken as quite different things (sense of self and really existing self) until the realization of no-self But after realization of no...

Re: Not self - Ven. Yuttadhammo got it wrong too?

In the following video Ven. Yuttadhammo said not-self means nothing under your control. Is this the Theravada teaching? This is not only Theravada teaching but also the teaching of Buddhism in general and even certain parts of Hinduism. Not self - Ven. Yuttadhammo got it wrong too? He did not get i...

Re: Self is an Illusion

The self exists. Only the body exists, not self. Only the mind exists, not self. Only consciousness exists, not self. If the body (or mind, or consciousness) exists then self also exists. Both are abstractions based on conditions like direct experiences and their interpretations. It depends upon wh...

Re: Anicca, Dukkha, and Anatta refer to the consciousness?

Moreover, why do we need third party validation (suttas), authority, or scripture based beliefs/analyses (I am not saying they are useless; they may be helpful), when direct ordinary experience is vivid and alive right now, and we can verify it right now - easily and with full certainty. If a take ...

Re: Anicca, Dukkha, and Anatta refer to the consciousness?

There are many suttas that I think support the above. But I am not sure why you labeled the above post as solipsism (not that I find it a derogatory word, and I would be okay with it, but its mainstream definition does not seem to be in line with what my post is implying).

Yes rock is impermanent but is not Dukkha.
Rock (more accurately "rock-idea") is dukkha too. There is no rock (or at least you can never find it) as a consciousness-independent entity except as an idea and form - both of which are dukkha.

Re: Anicca, Dukkha, and Anatta refer to the consciousness?

You can never access "material objects" whose existence can never be verified in direct experience. So. In your opinion Rupa (form) does not refer to the physical object we can perceive with our senses? In my opinion, Rupa does not refer to "physical objects" which is a modern t...

Re: Anicca, Dukkha, and Anatta refer to the consciousness?

Anicca, Dukkha, and Anatta refer to the consciousness? After much reading and thinking I am now convinced Anicca, Dukkha, and Anatta refer to consciousness, not for the material objects. What is your opinion? You are correct, in my opinion. You can never access "material objects" whose ex...

Re: Does the rupa khandhas in the five aggregates is referring to as materiality ?

In direct actuality there are just appearances which appear and disappear (to no one). For example, the vision/shape/color/touch 'of the laptop' are the direct appearances (where as 'of the laptop' is an idea). (Shapes and color do not exist independent of experiences. Actually, shapes/colors are th...

Re: Does the rupa khandhas in the five aggregates is referring to as materiality ?

However , your meaning is rupa khandhas are not meant to give an account of matter (four primary elements earth, water, fire and air) as constitutive of external reality . Not about materiality or physicality . Correct, in my understanding, Rupa is not about physicality as understood in modern era....

Re: Do you believe in the infallibility of the Buddha's word?

Pesonally I find that most of the words he used refer to the same or similar concepts as in early Hinduism, including Karma, Dharma, Nirvana, Anatma, Anitya, Dukha, Bhava, Avidya, Samskara, Vijnana, Nama, Rupa, Vedana, Trishna, Samsara, Jati, Dhyana, Samadhi, etc. We may be going off-topic a bit, b...

Re: Does the rupa khandhas in the five aggregates is referring to as materiality ?

Does the rupa khandhas in the five aggregates is referring to as materiality? No, not in the sense of modern meaning: physical material or matter, which never appears as form in direct world except as a thought. What is your view on the meaning of rupa khandhas in the five aggregates ? What does it...

Re: Do you believe in the infallibility of the Buddha's word?

Not participating in discussion about the infallibility of Buddha's teachings but the doctrine of Karma was hardly an unknown concepts in the subcontinent. Buddha was one of many who created a school of thought surrounding it. In the Rig Veda written in approximately 1500 BC the word occurs several...
