Re: what is the relevence of eating before noon?

hey hanzze, no it is not easily understandible, in fact it is impossible to understand, you must experience this state for yourself and in your own way. you are a combination of mind and matter(body) if you practice correctly you can learn to experience the body at the sub-atomic level (bhanga) the ...

Re: 4 Noble Truths

Dear Jason, that could easily lead to nihilism or aversion against live, there is no problem with life, there is just becoming (birth) and it's cause which makes life to something that is suffering. dear hanzze, life=suffering=samsara=dukka=nama-rupa=mind-body=energy-matter. these all represent a c...

In regard to the four Noble Truths
the first is sometimes understood to say "life is suffering."
when it doesnt, it says "there is suffering."
i've come to understand there is no difference in these two statements

Re: The Cause of mindfulness

Hi everyone :anjali: pretty straight questions: 1. What is the cause of mindfulness? 2. What is the cause of a lack of mindfulness? 3. How to establish mindfulness? I had a look at the Girimananda Sutta , but it's formulated similar in the anapanasati sutta, too. (10) And what, Ānanda, is mindfulne...

Re: what is the relevence of eating before noon?

dear cittasanto, lets say your a scientist, and you want to find a cure for cancer. but in your experiments you find a cure for heart disease. do you simply throw away this cure, as it was not what you were looking for? for me its the same with a topic of discussion, if it leads to other things and ...

Re: what is the relevence of eating before noon?

hey cittasanto, i did not say the remaining precepts are not relevant, i simply wish to explore them more deeply, if you feel they are just simply rules for monastics to follow then this is your understanding and this is good for you. following my own practice i have found these precepts to be very ...

Re: Hi from a fellow traveler in samsara

welcome kathleen, when i have difficulty sleeping, i lie on my back perfectly still and practice body scanning. i bring my attention to different parts of my body trying to feel my natural energy. this seems to be a very good substitute for sleep, it allows my body to rest after working hard all day...

Re: what is the relevence of eating before noon?

hi manas, i was not disagreeing with the cutting back of our food intake, developing a true sense of our individual bodies needs is an important step in cultivating a meditative practice, and i personally find it very benificial. i was trying to get to the heart of the importance of the strict monas...

Re: what is the relevence of eating before noon?

dear cittasanto, if the rules were set up strictly to keep the monks from being a nuicence and as a form of restraint. how did monks travel in the old forest days when going from one monestary to another, what if they became lost should they simply die. i've read of monks searching for forest greens,...

Re: what is the relevence of eating before noon?

hey cittasanto, i suppose the timeframe can force compassion to arise in devotees, if we dont get the food to them on time the poor folks will go hungry for the night. and if nobody gives, the monks move on or starve to death. so the timeframe could also be to solicit compassion. hey hanzee, i'm hav...

Re: what is the relevence of eating before noon?

Re: what is the relevence of eating before noon?

hey polar buddha,
i can totally get on board with the practicality of that reason, so if a monk is recieving his food from a devotee and the devotee has to take their kid to the doctor and drops the food off to the monks at 2 pm can the monks eat this food then?

what is the relevence of eating before noon?

i was reading through the why one meal a day thread, and it raised this question. what is the relevance in eating your meals or meal before noon? it is my understanding that in the buddhas time when he created the order of monks there was no set time to go out for alms, but one day a monk went out l...
