Yes, I'm aware of it, thank you for mentioning. It's also available for free at Marcus Bingenheimer's website.

Re: Differences between the Pāḷi Nikāyas & Chinese Āgamas

When talking about similarities and differences, I don't think it's very helpful to put all the Chinese agama texts together because all of the main Agama collections come from different schools. You have to take the Chinese agama collections separately. You can get an approximate idea of the vario...

Differences between the Pāḷi Nikāyas & Chinese Āgamas

Hello Dhamma Wheelers, I posted a question on Stack Exchange regarding the differences between the Pāḷi Nikāyas & Chinese Āgamas . I was hoping to get a comprehensive answer, so I thought I would also post it here since people around here can probably answer it. What are the salient differences ...

Re: Deep Contradiction?

Hi everyone, I should perhaps have said a bit more about MN 64. There is a set of ten questions which are called 'The undeclared questions' because the Buddha refuses to give answers to them. These are also sometimes presented as a set of ten views. 1. The world is eternal. 2. The world is not eter...

Re: Deep Contradiction?

Yes, but in the same teaching, the Buddha also states that by holding the view 'the world is not eternal', the holy life cannot be lived." Yes, that is true. I should've made explicit that the problem is holding the view. Holding that it is "not eternal" is the same as holding it to ...

Re: Deep Contradiction?

Hi everyone, From MN 64.6 [BB, MLDB.] "Malunkyaputta, if there is the view 'the world is eternal', the holy life cannot be lived; and if there is the view 'the world is not eternal', the holy life cannot be lived." "What, venerable sir, is the holy life? ... This Noble Eightfold Path...

Re: The four noble truths are not true for everyone.

... The 4 Noble Truths ARE true for everyone. Some people just don't WANT them to be true for everyone.... ... On the face of it though, the 4 Noble Truths are very simple in their teaching. The problem lies with people developing an aversion to what is right under their nose, turning it up and say...

Re: The four noble truths are not true for everyone.

Not fully on-topic but also not off-topic so I'll just share the thoughts that popped up. The word "noble" never made it for me. Apart from the meaning of "having or showing fine personal qualities or high moral principles" , which is good except for the word "high" . I...

Re: MN 28 and the Clinging Aggregates.

I wonder why during sleep one is easier awaken when exposed to louder sound/ harder touch than softer sound/touch? In this case, what is the condition that pushes one's consciousness to meet the other 2 element of contact? I would say it's lack of concentration, since in sleep the mind is scattered...

Re: MN 28 and the Clinging Aggregates.

What happens if a visual object meets with an intact eye and consciousness is not present? chownah No contact, according to the suttas. Contact is what doesn't happen. I'm wondering what does happen. chownah Since there is no contact, the only thing that happens is that matter is decaying without a...

Re: MN 28 and the Clinging Aggregates.

What happens if a visual object meets with an intact eye and consciousness is not present? chownah No contact, according to the suttas. Indeed. And one doesn't even need to go by the suttas . Just look at the experience right now. One is sitting on a chair typing a post. His attention is on typing ...

Re: MN 28 and the Clinging Aggregates.

Here's the answer I found: The phenomenon that you are describing is entering the emotional stage ( saṅkhāra ), where you feel big or small emotions after perceiving an object incorrectly. For example, perceiving danger were there is none, will generate fear. Or, from your example, perceiving the s...
