Re: How many times a day do you sit?

So putting aside the amount of times you sit in a day, what about the length of the time spent meditating?

Would it be better to meditae less but spend more time on the cushion?

Or would it be better to meditate more with less time on the cushion?

Thank you :namaste:

Re: Why meditate

Great encouragement!

This is my thought on all the negativity I sometimes experience. Whatever the problem is, I'll be sitting when next my meditational time comes around. Even if I sit glowering at it in my mind's eye :)

Just sit and meditate regardless.

Re: Why meditate

I feel 'exactly' the same 'exactly'. Lately it's a case of 'ready, steady...and start thinking!'. Seems like I've not moved forward 1 inch toward anything even remotely resembling anything akin to awakening. I know this can take a looong time but my point is, I seem to be gettong worse during my med...

Re: How many times a day do you sit?

Thanks for all the advice It seemed only to be a temporary thing. It lasted about a day and a half. To be fair I'd gotten a cold and wasn't feeling to well either. Anyway, today I went back to 3 x 20 minutes sessions but there was an instant when I almost had to physically jump up and stop. I got th...

Re: How many times a day do you sit?

If I sit for 20 minutes I find it counterproductive. My mind wanders tremendously , it's almost as if I've told myself subconsciously '20 minutes is too long for you to focus - so don't even bother'. Then there's a feeling of restlessness (a classic I know) where I could be doing a million other thi...

How many times a day do you sit?

I'm finding 3 sittings of 20 minutes too much right now. So in fear of ditching the practice altogether, I've reverted to 3 sittings of 15 minutes each, morning, afternoon and evening.

How many times a day do you sit, and for how long?

Best Meditation Technique for Relaxation

Which meditation technique is the best for purely relaxation effects?

Breath and Buddhist Thoughts During Meditation

I focus on the breath, and most of the time my mind wanders crazily - but I keep taking it back to the breath. On some occassiosn though, I find myself thinking about certain Buddhist teachings like being present, or more specifically, realising there really is no future or past. Now and then things...

Re: Breath

I like the idea of following the 8 fold path to enhance a calm mind. Generosity, Patience, Forgiveness etc. Focusing on these virtues means less attention to negative thoughts/feelings, which in turn settles us down because it is "not pushed and pulled with attachment and aversion so much". Thanks f...

Re: Breath

Hiya collective If you have anxiety in meditation, look at your motivation. You have mentioned relaxation, focus, insight .. basically everything but bodhicitta. Ask yourself "Why am I doing these meditations?" You need to recover the ultimate aim. Then things will go better. I thought all these te...

Re: Breath

Is it important to actually feel sensation in my nostrils? Or can I just focus my attention on the nostrils and know for a surety that the breath passes through them? That will work. I don't focus on the sensation of breath going in and out of the nostrils but just 'center' my awareness on some par...

Re: Lying Down

Agreed, I'd like to be that comfortable that I can focus entirely on my meditation and not about any pains and/or strains. Though those too can be handy on times.

Lying Down

Is there any other reason I shouldn't meditate lying down other than I may doze off? When I used to do Yoga Nidra, you had to lie down, and it was ok. I'm thinking of adopting a lying down position with my meditation but there seems to be a negative outlook to this. What are your thoughts? Thanks al...

And I guess the beauty of all this, is when you come off the cushion, there's a billion things you can choose to focus on throughout the day.

Re: eyes after meditation

Yes I've noticed this, and I can feel it as well. I think it's more to do with physical effects, the staring etc (unless your eyes are closed) than anything mystical - for want of a better word.

Then again I could be wrong.

Re: Breath

Now that is what I wanted to hear. This is what I was trying to explain earlier, that I just watch the whole breath, the very act of experiencing the whole breath. I don't know, call it body breathing :) It isn't at the abdomen, the nose, or even the chest, yet it's all those but none in particular....
