When eyes are closed

When meditating with eyes closed there seems to be 2 ways I can do this. [1] What I call hazy eyes When the eyes tend to go 'soft' and roll back slightly into the head, almost like wehn you are asleep. [2] What I call busy eyes When you are basically staring at the inside of your eyelids, fully awak...

Re: Eckhart Tolle: The Power of Now

Our ability to go on 'automatic pilot' (not traditional Buddhist terminology I know) while driving a car or walking is very useful. This is very interesting to me as I've experienced this and I also labelled as 'going to the store on auto-pilot'. Like arriving there and wondering how I got there. W...

Re: Eckhart Tolle: The Power of Now

I tend to agree, I have read the first of his books (I just wanted your opinion on them as I'm new to Buddhism) and he seems to teach the 'present awareness' concept in a simple to understand refreshing way. Seems to me it's a very much 'stripped down to the bare bones' take on living in the here an...

Eckhart Tolle: The Power of Now

Eckhart Tolle: The Power of Now

He speaks of being present and meditation.

I was wondering if anyone had read this book and how's it viewed on here?

Thank You

Question on Focus

I may have mentioned this before, where your focus is when multiple things occur. For example, sitting meditation. You focus on the breath, then you get an itch. Ah ha! Do you focus on the itch, or stay with the breath? Another example, you are walking through a tree covered trail. You focus on your...

Re: Meditation Seat

This is what I am hoping for too. I know we are supposed to sit through various aches and pains but I think it would massively aid my concentration if all I had to worry about was my actual focus.

Re: Meditation Seat

I'm 5' 5" and 11 stone, I've just found one on ebay and it looks to be perfect, so here's hoping.

Thanks for the pics and the information though!

Meditation Seat

I'm looking to make my own meditation seat from wood. It's the type where the seat part slopes down slightly to accomodate the natural 'fall' of the hips: http://www.bluebanyan.co.uk/images/IMG_1094.jpg I was hoping someone could give me the degree measurements for the tilt, and any other dimensions...

Re: Disillusioned

Thank you all very much. I think I remember bringing up a similar point a few months ago, and the advice I had then is very similar to now. Basically, we don't meditate to relax, that's just a bonus if it comes about. I've been thinking, perhaps I should go back to 1x25mg because at least I'll have ...

Disillusioned

I'm quite disillusioned. I take ant depressants, I take 50mg a night which is the lowest prescribed dosage you can take. But here's my problem. When I was taking 50mg, everything was going good, my meditational practices were of a good quality, and I found myself aware of being a lot more relaxed in...

I have, at times, sat for up to nine hours continuously with no ill-effect.
A good rule of thumb is change your posture if it hurts.

Re: How many times a day do you sit?

Just done my second 30 minute sit.

Have to say, although the mental focus is more demanding, the after glow is a lot warmer :)

Re: How many times a day do you sit?

I dont know Collective. I have never tried... I do practice meditation though and its hard work at times. Good point. Today I sat for 30 minutes for the first time, and it was a good expereinc and at one point my whole body felt like it was tingling all over, and I was very relaxed. It was ...
