The aggregates are beneficial in the way it separates "mental formations" and enable us to see how its DO which eventually should lead to right view.

Re: What do you think of this?

I think that Krishnamurti's teachings is compatible with the teachings of the Buddha, I know that many would disagree. I don't think Krishnamurti was saying that the raft simile, or gradual awakening is completely wrong, but he was trying to provide a different way of understanding it. For example, ...

Re: Is self view, a self fulfilling prophecy?

In my mind, it seems that our inability to see where self view comes from makes us limited by it, hence we think that the "I" is something original

Re: Respect for parents - my struggle

Hello Craig, I am sorry to know about your struggle and difficulties with your mother. The relationship with our families is always complicated especially with our parents. In the one hand, we feel that we need to respect them and have appreciation for everything they have done for us, and on the ot...

Re: Feeling like a neutered dog while following Buddhism

Don't know any other way so apologies if I sound crude... Does anyone else feel the same way while following the teachings? As a layperson is it not a good thing to maintain a healthy level of passion/desire? Without it life seems so meaningless and depressing. This is a very sad msg. It points to ...

Re: Question on kamma

I think it's a matter of correctly distinguishing between the fact of individuality, the subtlety of conceit, and flagrant selfhood. There are individual beings at a given place and time, but there's an absence of abiding Bits or Essences or such over time; there is simply the procedural ongoing-ne...

Re: Question on kamma

Do you know of any suttas where the Buddha states clearly that there is a free agent (apart from the aggregates) who can make free choices and held morally responsible for his/her actions? Peace I don't know of a sutta that says that exactly, but this sutta makes it quite clear that one is a "free ...

Re: Question on kamma

My mind is still a bit confused in relation to Bhikkhu Pesala's point that if we have the ability to recollect our previous deeds then the world will seem more just/fair, but isn't our previous deeds in itself are not free? Why to suffer the result of deeds that I have not chosen in the first place...

Re: Question on kamma

what we describe as "volitional actions" are a mere delusion and its all dependently arising and there is no free agent to pick and choose. That is a "fatalist" (ajivaka) view, which the Buddha rejected. "There are brahmans & contemplatives who hold this teaching, hold this view: 'Whatever a person...
