What would you tell your younger self

Hello

This is inspired by an article on the BBC:

Imagine for a moment you could go back in time. Knowing what you know now about work and life, what would you tell your 22-year-old self?

Peace

Re: what bothers you among world issues?

Of course for Buddhist laypeople they can abort is much as they wish and work as abortion doctors if that is their chosen career, - no issue about that . This is the crux of the matter (except insisting that they must be Buddhists) and I fail to see how the rest of your post is relevant. This threa...

Re: what bothers you among world issues?

Bundokji Check out the thread I gave a link to ( the post by Ven. Dhammanando) Thanks Robert, I have read the post, and I have not seen a sutta that clearly discuss or forbid abortion. Out of curiosity, I read the post right below it by Ven Dhammanado where he says: A Buddhist who holds abortion to...

Re: what bothers you among world issues?

And of course some global warming scientists suggest that humanity will become extinct in less than a hundred years (not that I am suggesting that).so it seems numbers matter to some people. Of course numbers can give an indication and can support an argument pending that its not being used in a de...

Re: what bothers you among world issues?

Sorry , yes over 7 million a year from poverty. But still less than the deaths by abortion right? If we look at just the numbers, yes, you are right, but with all due respect, the comparison in the context of this thread is naïve! I don't know if you would agree, but when we talk about a "world iss...

Re: what bothers you among world issues?

I have a feeling that the questions in the poll imply that all members of this forum are westerners when in fact, some are not! Even issues like global warming which affect us as humans, in most cases it concerns well educated-western idealists. As far as I know, most world citizens (developing cou...

Re: Do bad thoughts create bad karma?

Sometimes the best way to deal with the so-called bad thoughts is not to take them too seriously and to have a laugh at them if you can! If you can accept that the human brain produces all kind of different thoughts, and that labelling them as "good" and "bad" or "wholesome" and "unwholesome" does n...

I am not sure if the Buddha taught that "everything" is impermanent! but that all conditioned phenomena are impermanent.

Buddhism would remain what it is even if it were proved that the Buddha never lived. - Christmas Humphreys :anjali: :anjali: :anjali: The Buddha himself has not given his own existence any great importance: Now the Blessed One spoke to the Venerable Ananda, saying: "It may be, Ananda, that to some ...

Re: Lumbini, Kapilavastu, Kusinara sites now in doubt.

Many believe - for instance- that Socrates is nothing more than the imagination of Plato, but who cares! I have my own doubts about the historical Buddha especially when I look at the striking similarities between his story and that of Mahavira, but that does not affect my faith in the teachings. :s...

Re: a veggie/anti-natalism tangent

I don't think the vegetarian position necessarily posits scaling back consumption but a more efficient use of resources. It certainly posits the scaling back of the consumption of meat. And doing that scales back consumption of resources—look at my most recent post in the veg debate thread for some...

Re: a veggie/anti-natalism tangent

The population in developed countries do not increase much, but food consumption per capita continue to increase because of the kind of food they consume and the huge amount of waste.
