Suttas to Support CO Discharge

Greetings all. In case you don't yet know, I've been enlisted in the Georgia Army National Guard since January. My military job is infantry - the front lines, the main combat arms job in the military. Please understand that I'm not looking to discuss why I enlisted. Just know that I have since had a...

Re: Noble Eightfold Path

Welcome to Dhamma Wheel, NDat! :hello: I hope you find your stay on the forum informative as well as inspiring. The Noble Eightfold Path is commonly broken down into three parts: virtue, concentration and wisdom. Concentration actually makes up the last two of the eight, and therefore represent the ...

Re: The Buddhist Response to Ecocide?

It is statements like this that pretty much prove to me that not very many people will do what it takes to save the earth from destruction. The fact that anyone can say, with a straight face, that reducing the destruction of our only home is simply a matter of opinion is patently atrocious to me, a...

Re: BTN Documentary on American Buddhist Practice

Message from my son: This will open up the second documentary, Buddhist Practice on American Ground . That is the longer one with genkaku in it. The first documentary is now missing or broken, which is a problem on the side of the administrator of the website. Open your Windows Media Player. Click ...

Nice. Well-written article that includes an honest, albeit disconcerting, assessment of the problem, the first time I've read such from a Buddhist, to be honest. I actually can't wait to read the rest of it as it is posted.

Re: The Buddhist Response to Ecocide?

I'm not anti-ecology. I do my part recycling and not pouring oil down the drain and conserving and whatnot. I just feel that a lot of things about the ecology movement is not being examined because it claims to save the Earth and of course no one wants to say that its wrong. But on the other hand m...

Re: The Buddhist Response to Ecocide?

David: Yes, I've heard this before, and it makes a lot of sense. I don't have any proof, but I have a feeling that developed nations, such as the U.S., have an interest in keeping those countries poor, probably having to do with limiting trade competition and keeping them in debt. Jhana4: I can't r...

Re: The Buddhist Response to Ecocide?

David: I hope you're right about the development of new forms of renewable energy taking precedence once oil becomes too expensive to continue use. I do think there will be a strong backlash from oil companies themselves, and that will prove hard to overcome. They've successfully killed and/or dela...

Re: The Buddhist Response to Ecocide?

Ecologists are not trying to just protect the planet, they are trying to keep it the way that humans like it. As you have said, there have been five extinction periods before, and the earth is still teeming with life. The environment has always changed, if the Earth was the way it was when it first...

Re: The Buddhist Response to Ecocide?

I feel a bit helpless really, against all these vast economic and physical forces. If it's all as hopeless as you suggest, then as a buddhist my personal response is to sit and contemplate anicca, dukkha, and anatta, and then live according to what I find in that internal space. And also be prepare...

The Buddhist Response to Ecocide?

Hey friends, Allow me a little bit of time to provide context before asking my question, so that we all can start with a similar understanding of the topic. According to many credible ecological and environmental sources, our current way of life - that is, industrial civilization - is killing the pl...

They work, it's just that you have to be a haxor to figure out how to do it. I'm not, but I called my son to get it to work for me. He clicked around, got the source code, copied it, opened up some windows, selected some other programs, and got it to work. Unfortunately, he did it so fast, I have n...

Yeah, it seems that now none of the video links on the site work.

Alan's probably right - there isn't much new in the film beyond seeing genkaku.
