Things Most Worth Living For

Apart from Dhamma, what are the things in your life that you consider highly of?

For me, it is:

1. Learning/studying
2. Spending time with good people (family, friends, like-minded people)
3. Giving advice/helping people out

Re: Sotapanna

Many hundreds of thousands of years to live—even if it is somewhat pleasant, I believe would be torture. Plus, rebirths can still occur within the human realm. I hope someone can bring the sutta reference which describes the 7 rebirths.....if my memory is correct they are the types of rebirths that...

Re: Hello from Flanders(Belgium)

I have a question : SN AN BN , what doe those codes mean by the suttas ? They are abbreviations of the different parts of the Pāḷi Canon and other works. It differs from author/translator to author. Such as (from Nyanatiloka Thera's Buddhist Dictionary ): Abh. Abhidhamma Piṭaka D. Dīgha Nikāya Dhp....

Re: Sotapanna

Greetings chownah, The only implication I see is that once stream-entry is achieved, that stream inevitably leads to nibbana. A concerted effort can be made to paddle down the river and experience nibbana sooner (i.e. become an arahant in this lifetime), or one can merely drift there slowly, as per...

More recent news from Thailand: A JOINT committee made up of monks and laymen will be proposed for the prime minister and National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) chief to endorse and then advise on whether Phra Dhammachayo, the abbot of Wat Phra Dhammakaya in Pathum Thani, should remain a monk....

Apparently, there is a long waiting list for ordination at Abhayagiri. I would contact them before to get some more information.

Re: Can somebody become supergenius through meditation?

It depends what you mean by super genius. The Buddha, after meditating for a long period of time, reached Enlightenment, developed magical powers and became omniscient. Many other monks obtained magical powers after having developed jhāna. Depicted a number of times in the Tipiṭaka, some monks memor...
