Laughter

Hello fellow seekers. :candle: Humbly I come to you who are more advanced in the teaching to ask about laughter and its place in the conduct of a Dhamma follower. I quote the book "Mindfulness in Plain English," introduction: Go to a party. Listen to the laughter, that brittle-tongued voice that say...

Re: What awakens?

Hi,
I am sorry to hear about your gout.

A further question.
If we are losing delusion, or delusion is being lost, however you may put it,

What is "it" that loses a delusion?
Perhaps these are Western concepts of self that remain influencing my interpretation.

What awakens?

When we say that people reach a state of Awakening, Do people attain Buddhahood "individually?" How can a person with anatta (no binary state of a "self") suddenly make a change in state like that? Must it then be a gradual process? Thanks for understanding what must be a vague question, :candle:

Addicted to Wrong Speech (internet)

Hello, I have noticed in myself an addiction to certain online communities, and the constant stream of mental stimulation that comes from reading and participating in them. Looking back, I have always had a propensity to become drawn into alternate realities ( MMORPGs, video games, internet, even ps...

Re: The Heart of the Issue

Thank you all for your input. I have another question: So with direct knowledge of the noble truths, "Volitional formations" cease, thereby causing consciousness to no longer be sustained in the cycle of rebirth. I will take the meaning of the "Volitional formations" to be the resultant series of ph...

Re: The Heart of the Issue

So by the cessation of this ignorance (by following the Eightfold Path) we can cease fabrications that cause suffering? Here's what I still don't understand: With the cessation of ignorance, comes the cessation of fabrications. Presumably (from your post) this means mental fabrications. With the ces...

The Heart of the Issue

Hello, I am new to this forum. I might as well cut to the chase: I'm trying to get to the root of the Noble Truth of the Dependent Origination of Dukkha, and everything in the logical progression makes sense to me except for the final step: Dukkha is founded on Craving; Craving depends on Feeling; F...
