Re: Situation awareness

I'm guessing that this is a metaphor for this mindfulness thingy which sentinal is asking about above: Consider drinking orange juice.....drinking reconstituted frozen orange juice concentrate (which means you bought it as a frozen concentrate and you thawed it and added water). To make frozen orang...

Re: Ajahn Mun honoured by UNESCO

How was ajahn mun honored? What was done (or will be done) to honor him? I searched on the internet trying to find some UNESCO website which talked about the honoring of ajahn mun but couldn't find anything. Can anyone find something that can help me understand just exactly what honor is being besto...

Re: Romanticism and Buddhist Practice

Amon lele seems to be very engaged in the social activity of prosletyzing for disengagement. Here is an article by amon lele which can be taken to cut the other way: The Compassionate Gift of Vice: Śāntideva on Gifts, Altruism, and Poverty https://philpapers.org/archive/LELTCG.pdf A teaser: The Mahā...

How do you define element ?
You can find a definition of element at nyanatiloka's dictionary....you'll find it at "dhatu".

Re: Can you provide an example for body consciousness (Khaya Vinnana) eye consciousness?

I think that doodoot is trying (in an indirect way) to indicate that the word for body is "kaya" and not "khaya".

Re: Situation awareness

Why did Ven. Sujato choose "situational awareness" over the more typical "clear comprehension?" -- any ideas on that? I think it is just sujato doing his usual thing which seems to be to bring new and "innovative" definitions for pali terms. My view (which is totally uninformed) is that he thinks t...

Re: Pope visits Thailand

Even if the Patriarch is the head of all monks in all nations for Thai Buddhism, that wouldn't cover the Sri Lankan monks, Burmese monks, etc (as far as I know). Even if the Pope is the head of all roman catholic ministers in all nations for roman catholic christianity, that wouldn't cover the prot...

Re: Pope visits Thailand

Theravadins; we got nobody. I like it that way. No pope, no central planning hierarchy over all the temples in all nations, no Buddhist Vatican. Maybe you aren't aware of the thai Sangha Supreme Council and the Supreme Patriarch of Thailand: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sangha_Supreme_Council http...

Re: Repeated contemplation of things arising within a container

If the presently enduring visual experience, is completely within the container of a body, and is subject to disappearance at any given moment, then why crave for it? Why do I crave for pleasant visual experiences, over and over again, when I seemingly know that it is unownable and utterly beyond m...

Re: Romanticism and Buddhist Practice

Uh .. Romantic literature has nothing to do with being romantic :? You can't observe arising and cessation of Romanticism any more than you can observe arising and cessation of post-modernism :? I am perfectly aware of the genre of romanticism....I studied literature in school...I've read some of a...

Re: Can one equate nibbana to Atta ?

Ātman , attā or attan in Buddhism is the concept of self . In Thai Theravada Buddhism, for example, states Paul Williams, some modern-era Buddhist scholars have claimed that "nibbana is indeed the true Self" . I'm confused. You ask if nibbana can be equated to atta but now you say that yes they can...
