Re: Considering giving up harsh speech, even about certain politicians I dislike intensely: advice sought.

I feel as though some of these people darn well deserve it, Deserve what? Deserve your retribution? Do you really think that your attitudes and speach actually effects those people? Do you think that you are in a position to be able to hand out retribution?....and if you could do you think that the...

Re: Fire/Lotus buds on Buddha statues

id be interested in hearing this worldly explanation OK. In a certain sense whoever decided how the image would be made and what the meaning of the elements were to be would be what determines the meaning of the "symbolic elements".....if by my self financed and conceived of an image I could place ...

Re: Fire/Lotus buds on Buddha statues

The lotus represents the buddha having risen up from the mud (samsara) to the clear water where he bloomed (attained awakening) and the fire represents release from samsara ("nibanna" is the word used when a flame is extinguished). I just made this up. I am probably completely wrong. I have another...

Re: Awareness as the goal

The buddha taught us to go to a paper that did not exist when he was able to speak??? Your grasping because we followed logic and the answer it points to threatens your belief structure. I may reply in greater length later but I have two questions for now: What paper are you talking about?....I hav...

Re: Awareness as the goal

That validity made our conversation via internet possible. But it seems you are one of these extreme "illusionists" who are negating all and everything independent of context. First: I hit the wrong button when wanting to preview my previous post and mistakenly submitted it and I edited it while yo...

Re: Awareness as the goal

Nothing Seems like this indicates a belief in predestination.....a denial of free will. The idea that there is no free will seems to come into conflict with the idea (which seemingly the buddha expressed) that it is the individual's efforts which propel them along the noble path (or propel's them e...

Re: Why the Buddha never forbade suicide ?

What about the intention to not exist.....could the precept about killing include the idea of not killing ones self so that it is in support of non-indulgence in the intention to not exist?

Re: Awareness as the goal

you behave like a child. If you are interested in the scientific view, I have already elaborated on that here: https://dhammawheel.com/viewtopic.php?p=539116#p539116 It is up to you to decide for the popular term 'law' like in 'physical law' or for the scientific 'theory' which implies scientific v...

Re: Awareness as the goal

To apply the term 'law' is a matter of conventional speech. "Valid theory" would be more scientific. Valid theories are metaphysical speculation. you behave like a child. Re: Awareness as the goal

..when the breathing process is unconscious (what you woud like to call "subconscious" since you can find a definition of "subconscious" which supports your views (grasping at views))...... What do you mean by “ grasping at views ”? That's a really big topic and you might start by going to accessto...

Re: Awareness as the goal

I guess that one outcome of what you are saying is that if one is breathing without conscious decision (like when the ANS is controlling the breath) then it might be random..... Please tell me, in your view what stuff is random? chownah Nothing Seems like this indicates a belief in predestination.....

Re: Awareness as the goal

"no randomness" means "conditioned", "depending on conditions". "higher power" is metaphysical speculation. Random means without conscious decision. Breath is not random it is linked to mind. Re: Awareness as the goal

There is no awareness required.....and actually there is no "sensation" required either....to use the terms "awareness" and "sensation" in this respect is like saying that when molecules react chemically they are "aware" of what is going on because they have "sensation" (because the processes you d...

Re: Awareness as the goal

Even the so-called "random" motions of molecules aren't random. Why? Because these follow physical laws. There is no randomness whatsoever. That’s what I’m saying, and there is a law or order to nature. There is a higher power overseeing this. "no randomness" means "conditioned", "depending on cond...
