Re: A Manual of the Excellent Man

Greetings Will,

I think it means that the mindstate of an arahant experiences nibbana, not that the arahant him/herself is nibbana. Thus, it's an object/subject relationship.

That qualitative experience of nibbana is identical for an arahant and a Buddha.

Re: The negative language of Theravada.

Greetings Individual, "Everything is shared" is inconsistent with "I (atman) am the owner of my actions (kamma)" (AN 5.57) More accurately, my kamma is not the proximate cause for your vipaka... and "me" and "you" are conventional designations, not attas. But Buddha-nature, emptiness, and luminous m...

Re: A Manual of the Excellent Man

Greetings Will,

I would treat gnosis as synonymous to liberation or even arahantship, which infers nibbana but best to get venerable Dhammanando's clarification on that if you're looking at a really precise definition.

Re: Temporary Arahantship?

Greetings Craig,

Arahants are perfect to the extent that they can no longer have mindstates that are based in greed, aversion or delusion. To think they can move in the "endarkenment direction" is therefore simply incorrect.

Greetings Individual, I am not a puggalavadin, because that would be a speculative wrong view. But I do think that, as with Theravadin Abhidhamma, Puggalavadin philosophy could be useful in illustrating the truth. Whereas the explicit philosophical notion of a puggala isn't upheld by modern Mahayani...

Re: Homosexuality

Greetings,

To complement what has been said about "sexual misconduct" of which homosexuality is not explicitly specified, most of the Buddha's teachings were given to celibate monks, so the topic wasn't really all that relevant, as sexual anything was a no-no.
