Re: Effect of words in "cause and effect"

Are you saying that the "conditioning" and "arising" and "dependency" are only to be accepted at face value? Is there any objectivity to them whatsoever? If not, they need scarcely bother us. If I may interject, my understanding is that things are real but not constantly real. This I see as the mid...

Re: Porn Free for 90 Days

Recently my Mum reminded me of when I was about 16 (1986) I'm “clean” (for want of a better word) for 9 days (and 168 days before that). Writing here is helping. If it wasn't for my posts last night I would have kept the photos. With metta / dhammapal. Good luck with your right intentions, dhammapa...

Re: Thoughts on Stream-entry...

Good helpful post Fabienfriend. :) I found myself in agreement. Just for conversational interest, the part quoted below is the exact reason I turned to Buddhism. I found that craving (clinging) etc could not be abandoned in my earlier path and through my personal practice of Concentration meditation...

Re: my goals and ways of practice

1 What is liberation according to your understanding? 2 Is there any relation between jhana and liberation? If there is, what is it? 3 Isn't it good for us to make sure we understand these two things? Hi Ignobleone, Retro, Ohnofabrications I hope you don't mind me attempting an answer, to help. 1 L...

Re: Need help in my studies~~~!!!!!

Thanks for this quote David2, this is helpful for me too!

Retro is right in respect to energy. The first boost of focused energy is important and I find I often need to consciously propel it, either through 'stress' (as polarbearbudhha uses above), or reasoning with myself :soap: . :)

Re: Difference between awareness and mindfulness?

Hello This article helped me to better understand these two terms: http://www.accesstoinsight.org/lib/authors/thanissaro/concmind.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; To quote: "mindfulness means being able to remember where you want to keep your awareness". It may not answers all you...

Re: Intelligence and Buddhism

What is the theory of intelligence in Buddhism? It goes without saying that your intelligence is a result of various causes of the past. Can one be more intelligent through practice or become dumber through wrong practice? Another point is about wisdom. Is it related to intelligence in Buddhism? Ca...

Re: Need help in my studies~~~!!!!!

Hi Glad it was of some help. I suggest breaking the problems you face into different categories, on paper if easier. You mention English/non-English and materials in both posts, so I feel this is a concern to you. Try not to bring emotion into it, try to see it as fact based exercises, e.g. Break it...

Re: Need help in my studies~~~!!!!!

Hi You aren't alone, I should be studying also for some end of month deadlines. I felt enthusiastic about starting the course, but it is the momentum that I find hard to keep. I am finding Buddhism helps with tacking 'aversion'. Aversion is a form of craving (tanha) in my opinion. The way I do it to...

Re: Five aggregates of appropriation (upādānakkhandha)

Hi everyone, The five aggregates and the five aggregates of clinging are described in SN 22.48 - link to ATI version: http://www.accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka/sn/sn22/sn22.048.than" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Re: Dutch girl ages 12 years in 3 minutes

That's a relief, I thought I was about to witness some horrific abnormal growth. It is a good idea and well done, thanks for sharing, Ben. I feel the most notable aspect of anicaa is when we look back over our own childhood and remember 'feeling' the same yet being quite a different physical...

Re: Bodhi watch... or waiting for the Anguttara

I see bookdepository.co.uk have an extra 10% discount this week, I wonder if it will work against the pre-order of the Anguttara.

Which others of Ven. Bodhi's book(s) would anyone recommend as a first or essential purchase?

Re: the four stages of enlightenment

why did he say 4 different types of awakening? HI Villkorkarma Is it an issue of grammar? My understanding from the quote above is that the awakening is the same ( singular not plural), what is different is the 4 (or 3 seen by bodom) types (plural). In other words, 4/3 type of awakening. I say this...
