Re: A Critique of Brahmavamso’s “The Jhanas”

Isn't there an inherent contradiction in considering that Jhana can be be any form of meditation and the actual detailed definition of the Jhanas in the Suttas? Jhana can be of different kinds: ... Well said, Dmytro. Quite unfortunately for those who can only read English translations of the Suttas...

Re: Shouldn't abyāpāda·saṅkappa cover avihiṃsā·saṅkappa?

What about this: Abyapada is about non-ill will as usual Avihimsa is about not harming The difference would be that it is possible to harm without ill-will, for example out of carelessness. If you take the example of the Jains for example, who took avihimsa to great length, they would even sweep th...

Re: Ashin Tejaniya and Thanissaro Bhikkhu

I agree their teachings are compatible. However, learning from both requires one to be aware that Ven TB uses sutta langauge while SUT uses Theravada commentarial language. E.g. they use "jhana" to mean different things.

Thanks for the reminder, bhante. I've thought about my involvement here too, but have trouble resisting some comments sometimes. :-)

Anyway, perhaps it might be unfair to say that for the entire thread.

Re: Sayadaw U Tejaniya - When Awareness Becomes Natural

The Thinking Mind [/b] Another definition of the mind is "the mind that thinks," because that is what it does. You cannot make the mind not think. If you are trying to stop the mind from thinking, you are trying to do the impossible. As a student of SUT since 2000, I'd like to point out a potential...

Mano/Mettanando Bhikkhu (who the ppl here love to cite instead of real objective scholars because what he says is agreeable to thier own opinions) is a Buddhist scholar well versed in the scriptures (thanks to a dhammakaya scholarship he benefited from) but is a terrible Buddhist as he is a serial ...

Their leader is able to travel many hundreds of meters in his vast temple (from his lodging to were he preforms his speeches and other duties) but claims to be too weak to report in the police station in front of the temple entrance! Im shocked nobody posted when i was gone. it states in the apology letters they did not have a basis for the claims they made in the early 2000s.... Well, it's either that, or be legally crushed, isn't it? So, of course they have to (and the wording probably had to be okayed by Dk lawyers). Hey, wh...

Re: Wat Dhammakaya

Yes the media attacks Dhammakaya a lot, especially now since many news stations were selectively shut down after the coup. And yes this has happened before and Dhammakaya successfully sued for slander when the media made numerous bogus and made up claims against the temple in the early 2000s http:/...

Re: Wat Dhammakaya

Wow... This reminds me of David Koresh's Branch Davidian cult, a major difference breing that Dhammakaya is much better equipped. Better equipped in what sense?
