Any insight based practice should include awareness of hearing and listening within it. This is not the same as awareness of sound though, sound is "out there", hearing and listening is happening within the mind. If you notice the attention goes "out there" to the sound, particularly if you start c...

Re: Meditation on sound and other sense bases

Imo, you can meditate on sound but it'd be not quite effective because we do not experience sound directly, but more internally, we experience hearing consciousness that arise in our mind. So it'd be better to meditate on hearing consciousness that arise in mind. I'm not sure what you mean by "hear...

Re: Meditation on sound and other sense bases

Yeah, check out the Sound of Silence. Ajahns Sumedho and Amaro used this meditation themselves and taught it to others (edit: and may still do so). Here's an article by Ajahn Amaro: The Sound of Silence That is very interesting!! Thanks for the article. I've never heard of the inner sound before! V...

Re: Meditation on sound and other sense bases

I agree with him, but that alone is not mindfulness meditation according to Buddhist teaching. According to Satipatthana that is only the knowing. You have to move to training using knowing as the base. Joseph Goldstein Satipatthana series covers all the aspect of mindfulness meditation. http://www...

Meditation on sound and other sense bases

I remember practicing with a Tibetan meditation master and one of his methods he taught was meditation on sound.. I thought the method quite useful. He pretty much taught that any sense base could be used for an object of meditation. He would call the meditation method as a whole, mindfulness medita...

You want to give you meaningless stats like you and waterchan have given?? fine here ya go and here's another . You want me to keep throwing garbage stats out??? That game gets kinda boring.. So the only two sources you can muster up are an obviously pro-gun website and a site named "Info Wars"? Th...

Re: Are the Police in the USA out of control?

Police and guns are very obviously part of the problem (of people being shot by police with guns). Another problem is the lack of recognition that it is a problem. There really isn't much to recognize on that end of the spectrum. The police and guns are not the problem. It's the higher government. ...

I think it's fair that you present evidence, perhaps in the form of data, to support the claims you have made in this thread, instead of engaging in mere speculation about why the figures I (and Ven Dhammanando) have presented could be inaccurate or misleading. ok.. I'll give you a statistic that I...

I quite doubt you could do that in your car while driving. i dont know why.... but ok So you're saying that you could be completely devoid of even the faintest ill-will and sensual desires — effectively the first jhana or higher — while driving? I didn't say i was in jhana. And I don't u...

According to what statistics??? The stats that I linked in that post. Yeah.... Those stats don't really mean much without the informtation that I was asking for.
