Re: What's the difference b/t the 3/4 foundation of mindfuln

I recommend that you read Venerable Analayo's classic: Satipatthana: the direct path to realization. Very basically, the third and fourth satipatthanas refer to the mental state (citta) and mental contents (dhamma). The third and fourth satipatthanas contain with it instructions on observing the me...

do you really believe Bhikkhunis have a tougher time because of their location?

Re: Potential wasp nest problm

Just get a hose with a strong spray attachment and blast out the nest. This isn't going to kill them, just destroy the nest. Wasps like to start to build nests under my siding most summers... I blast them out and they never come back. I've never found a dead wasp from the blasts of water either. Jus...

Re: Serious back pain when sitting

lotus posture is entirely a cultural thing, and it makes no difference if you sit lotus or in a chair as long as your spine is straight and your breathing is unimpeded. just find a comfortable position, with unimpeded breathing & a relatively straights pine, & don't bother putting the effort into tr...

Re: No Piti, No Sukkha, No Vipassana?

I have decided to make Anapanasati my main practice and have been doing it for the past couple of weeks, but have not had any sensations arise that I would consider piti or sukkha. So if I'm staying true to anapanasati, afaik this means that I cannot continue until they arise? Also, there needs to ...

I agree with this totally. In reality the day doesnt matter & I think if you need to observe a day earlier than just do that. What matters is the observance itself, not the stage of the moon.

Re: Knee pain from walking meditation

I've developed pain in my right knee from doing walking meditation. The strain on the knee seems to have developed from the constant turning of the body when I get to the end my walking path. I've tried turning in the other direction hoping that will lessen the strain on my right leg. Although, I r...

first thing would be to work on your actual sleep, make sure you are getting enough. some other tips: use caffeine wisely and skilfully, have a cup of tea. splash cold water in your face. meditate eyes open. turn on some bright lights. stand up and do standing meditation. if you're actually falling ...

Re: Feeling really despondent...

James really hit the nail on the head and BuddhaSoups advice about trying to gladden the mind is extremely wise (and effective). Gladdening the mind off the cushion has immeasurable effects on the mind ON the cushion. think all committed meditators end up going through periods of dryness and despair...

Re: the ethics of lay teachers who charge money

Ajahn Brahm is clearly the frontman because the Bhikkhunis want it. This is not comparing apples to apples. The amount of Dhamma teaching Ajahn Brahm has put out into the world Is perhaps unmatched in a thousand years. Ajahn Brahm isnt charging for his teachings. He isn't trying to fund himself or h...

Re: Downloading books you have had physical copies of

Hi all I can't seem to find my copy of Ven. Analayo's Satipatthana book. I can't remember whether I just misplaced it or whether I left it in Wellington or whether I gave it away. I came across a pdf on scribd, and I'm wondering if it's a violation of the 2nd precept for me to download it given tha...
