Ohio area get-together?

Hello friends, What if it could be arranged to rent a pavilion, some sort of outdoor gathering place at a public park, for a morning/afternoon to get a group of Dhamma practitioners together, do some chanting, talk a little about our experiences, and do some sort of pot-luck lunch? I'm in Cincinnati...

Re: Monks can create art, but not Music?

I think the 7th precept is about unwholesome music. Not being a scholar myself, mind you, I have considered this possibility also. I believe this is sort of how it is interpreted by those with Thich Naht Hanh's Plum Village communities, but I am not certain. I can't really think of anything I'd cal...

Re: Monks can create art, but not Music?

An interesting question. I don't have an "official" answer for such a question, although I can certainly attest to the personal affect of music on my own mind. I would say that music gets "stuck" in mind more easily (and stubbornly) than any visual art or literature does. If I could remember what I ...

Re: To those who have ordained or plan to ordain

What is currently holding you back from ordaining? I have a wife and two children for whom I intend to provide. I don't "feel" like they hold me back, mind you, but they are a condition that ties me to lay life. After that, language barriers may become the next major obstacle. How long have you bee...

Re: Need attention of an educated native English speaker

If you're looking primarily for proofreading, I'd be willing to look over the material for you and offer suggestions. Seven pages of material doesn't sound like it would terribly overwhelm my reading schedule. Of course, there may be many more qualified individuals here who might also be interested ...

Re: What music are you listening to right now?

I have certain parts from the Nutcracker running about in my mind, if that counts, but otherwise I am listening to nothing but the sound of children and domestic hygienic machines.

Re: Random Air Fare Question

I'll consider to explore the idea I suppose (on a much more long-term plan), although I was surprised that even fare from where I am to Los Angeles isn't even competitive with the price for all four of us to just rent a premium car, pay for gas, lodgings, and food and take a multi-day drive there an...

Random Air Fare Question

Hello friends, I am sure to expose my ignorance as it pertains to travel with this question... but I suppose that is OK because it is essentially true. I was considering the idea that I might try to fly from the US to Australia, but was shocked when the cheapest flights I could find were $2,500 per ...
