Re: Something equivalent to the Bible?

If you don't believe in God, less interest in rituals, can tolerate a little bit of supernatural stuff, can accept the 4 noble truth. Theravada is fine.

Re: Anapanasati Vs. jhana

IMO, it is more appropriate to regulate the tetrads in regards to circumstances and purposes rather than following a fix line and time. Could you say a bit more about how that works for you in practice - do you mean doing different tetrads on different days, for example? Certainly not different day...

Re: Why does Buddhism not work for some people?

Dr. Dukkha wrote: And then I hear about Jewish Buddhist who practiced Buddhism for years and the Dalai Lama told him to go back to Judaism.
The Dalai Lama said that different religions are like different medicines and different people have different sickness.

Re: Anapanasati Vs. jhana

Each tetrads have their own purpose and my personal view is as such: The first tetrad is merely instructing one to recognize any stress/discomfort through the theme of the breath and body posture then proceed to reset them until one finds it soothing. The point of the 2nd tetrad infers increasing on...

Re: Bunch of keys?

Indian background... Their concept(s) of God seems more fluid than the singular Abrahamic God. We can say, according to the Dhamma, that these sorts of gods are only samsaric fairies, and of little importance. I think Mkoll made a good point about the fluidity. In Hinduism, Brahman (ब्रह्मन् brahma...

Sorry barcsimalsi I'm not understanding this approach as it relates to his usage of God.
"God" and "all is aflame" in their own context as inspiring symbol which is not to be taken literally.

Re: Why An Illusory Self Is Needed

I don't recall any sutta saying it's necessary. The self-view is conditioned to be fabricated as long as there's ignorance.

No form, no six sense media, how contact occur?
Furthermore, the fabrication of pleasant and unpleasant feeling is related to the bio chemistry of form.

Re: Are four mental aggregates conjoined?

Going by what MN44 implied, sanna and vedana can also be separated from vinnana during the highest attainment. Otherwise, what's the point of calling it cessation of perception and feeling?

Looks like a contradiction with the sutta in the op.

Re: Are four mental aggregates conjoined?

Vinnana-sanna-vedana are conjoined, but sankhara can e.g. drop away in jhana , and rupa drops away in arupa states (obviously). Is there sutta reference for this? If vinnana is say to be non-static, then what keeps the flux flowing if not sankhara? Pardon, must be confused of sankhara with sankhara...

This has to be evaluated based on given facts: some of them are. i) The statement must be untrue. ii) There must be an intention to deceive. iii) An effort must be made to deceive. iv) The other person must know the meaning of what is expressed. Re: Does not keeping a promise violate the lying precept? Wh

I don't think broken promise is equivalence to lying. It is just different view leads to different intention. Since the mind is impermanent and not-self, can't expect it to stay the same. What matters is it leads to wholesome results.

Re: MN 28 and the Clinging Aggregates.

I wonder why during sleep one is easier awaken when exposed to louder sound/ harder touch than softer sound/touch?
In this case, what is the condition that pushes one's consciousness to meet the other 2 element of contact?
