Re: Asking a coworker if they are Buddhist

Asking a coworker if they are Buddhist? NO Asking a friend (who happens to be a coworker) if they are a Buddhist? Probably OK. Ben is right that this piece of information is irrelevant to them being an admirable friend. I have respected many people who come from social groups that, as a whole, I do ...

Re: Alcohol gift

Bhikkhu, Regarding the unwholesome Kama for re-gifting alcohol: would it be permissible to simply tell your friend the story of your dad giving you alcohol that you can't drink, and when they say, "would you please give me the alcohol," would you at that point be acting in wholesome service to your ...

Re: watching porn can be adultery?

I was watching a movie a while ago and the love scene pretty much turned into pornography... I did not masturbate.

Also, even more to the point, last night I clicked over to site with nude ladies, but after a few minutes I realized that I did not need to be doing that and left without masturbating.

The OP did not say Stephen is poor. It said he is in a dark place. I don't know exactly what that means, but he has proven himself to be kind and caring. He deserves our best wishes.

Re: Mindfulness

If you are having difficulty knowing your breath (as I often do) then you will probably have difficulty with the others as well. But the breath is the easiest to know if you are doing it right, to build some confidence, and to calm many of the really course bad habits so that you will have the clari...

Re: Revealing a cheating spouse: Wrong Speech?

I thought about this more, and this is the honest truth, but it is not based on morality. It is based on my personality and what I would likely do based on my own predispositions to avoid conflict yet to be supportive... If I am closer friends with the cheater, I would keep the secret and council hi...

Re: Revealing a cheating spouse: Wrong Speech?

If possible, I would convince the adulterer to confess their own crimes. Hearing from a third party evokes so many more confusing emotions. Denial and anger grow stronger. Also, they have time to grow more angry without the cheater having the chance to apologize. Of course, I realize this approach i...

Try sitting at a different time of day...? in the morning I either fall asleep or ruminate, but in the evening I sit with some success.
