Re: Wasps -- what to do?

I have the same problem every year. I do as you did, remove the nest material. Then I also began spraying the area with Off, Cutters, or other mosquito repellant. Wasps don't like it either :) They don't come back for a long time after that. You can also use the repellant in areas they like, but hav...

Re: is compassion deluded?

For the liberation from suffering, for all beings, including you. If that means being harsh or stern with others, that's still compassion. Being harsh or stern can learn other people valuable lessons too. With the right motivation this is indeed a form of compassion. A real friend will sometimes po...

Re: Not Everything Is Written In Stone. . .

How about we cut Tilt some slack? Maybe it's a bad day. Maybe he got hooked on a subject - happens to me all the time, so maybe it happens to him. I'm glad he has been able to contain it as much as he has. I remember some discussions over a year ago where everyone was slashing each other. This discu...

Re: Not Everything Is Written In Stone. . .

Edit - I found the Sutta reference I wanted, on effacement. Part way down the page is the Effacement section. There are 44 instructions from the Buddha. I try to remember when reading it, the instructions are for me - not the other persons. Someday maybe I'll get good at it :) http://www.accesstoins...

Re: Emptiness (Suññatā)

A book I've enjoyed is "Heartwood of the Bodhi Tree," The Buddha's Teaching on Voidness by Buddhadasa Bhikkhu. I'm not a 20 year practitioner - more like 20 months :) but I wanted to share the book title with you.

Re: Practicing while uninspired

Hi Jackson,

I have the same problem and look forward to how others have dealt with this. Being relatively new to Buddhism, I've found that being persistent in practice, inspired or not, sometimes gets me over the hump. But I"m far away from having licked this problem.

With Metta,

Re: Aids to anapanasati

Just to clarify, do you mean that you're using "Buddho" as the object of concentration, rather than the breath? Spiny I've just started using Buddho and I'm not an accomplished meditator. So take my thoughts with a large grain of salt :) When I sit, I maintain awareness of the breath but my mind is...

Re: Aids to anapanasati

Two syllables... 'Bud-dho' 'Bud' on the in breath, 'dho' on the out breath. :anjali: Hi Bodom, My breathing cadence is usually slow. I have been doing Buddho on the in breath and again on the out breath. On occaisions it slows to the point that I do two repeats on each in and out breath. No breathi...

Re: Know and Let Go

Hi....I feel as though I am becoming increasingly simple, that the multitude of concepts, thoughts and ideas that I once valued so highly, will inexorably become like old discarded rubbish to be blown away by the wind. I experience the same thing. I'm not consciously renouncing anything, but "detac...

Re: A gentle reminder about right speech

....As Bubba said well above, "All we can do is change our reactions to the Internet. As they say, far easier to don slippers than to try to carpet the world. In the case of the Internet, better don a suit of armor. Just sayin'. Here there be monsters. No place for the thin-skinned." Examining our ...

That's good, bubba :) My long post wasn't an argument, just me sharing my view. I'd post a pic, too, but I'm finding a har...

Re: A gentle reminder about right speech

Yea man. Occurs to me my point may have been too tangentially made to have sunk in: When you go to the playground, along with its attractions, you open yourself to that particular playground's hazards. The Internet, unfortunately, is open to everyone--EVERYONE. You enter it at your own risk. All yo...
