It's a Tibetan fox (Vulpes ferrilata). Carry on.

Re: Open invitation: Help us improve your DW experience!

Sorry Anna...not buying it . If my French, German, Italian, was as poor as Hanzze's English I would not even attempt to communicate on a website in French, German or Italian...on at least 20 occasions he has had feedback from a number of different people saying that they have no idea what he is try...

Re: Be prepared

I try to stay away from politics but I do agree that nothing good will come from this worldwide protest. I think there's a bigger agenda at work here that's extremly dangerous. Really? A grassroots movement to jettison brutal despots and you see nothing good coming from it? I'm actually optimistic ...

Jack, Thanks for the synopsis. Not that it matters but you still have my highest respect for giving it a whirl. Well done, IMO.. Future Bhikkhu, For me the challenge of practicing sila, dana, and tolerance is enough. If insight arises, then it arises. One step at a time and until I can master the ba...

Re: Do you travel alone?

A couple of years ago I rode my bicycle through northern Thailand and Laos alone. The trip was a little over 6 weeks. I noticed a person goes through every emotional state that they would at home but these states tend to be more amplified. Boredom, anxiety, restlessness, happiness are all there, we'...

Absolutely. Because each moment is just dukkha rising, dukkha falling.

‘True wisdom is less presuming than folly. The wise man doubts often, and changes his mind; the fool is obstinate, and doubts not; he knows all things but his own ignorance.’ — Akhenaton Unfortunately I lost a best friend a few years ago from bipolar disorder when he decided that his meds weren't ne...

Re: Timeline question on the Nikayas

Hi, In SN I've ran across statements such as "Venerable sir (i.e Mahakaccana), this was said by the Blessed One in 'The Questions of Magandiya' of the Atthakavagga.." This indicates that these discourses were written down at the time of the Buddha or within the time frame of the lives of disciples ...

Re: Timeline question on the Nikayas

Thanks Mike, I guess my question is more of a historical question. How could the householder Haliddakani ask the Venerable Mahakaccana a question about a written text when they both lived during the time of the Buddha (which as I understand it was a time that was pre-literate)? I have to be missing ...

Re: Timeline question on the Nikayas

Hi Retro, In the Book of Aggregates - "Haliddakani" it says the following: "Thus I have heard. On one occasion the Venerable Mahakaccana was dwelling among the people of Avanti on Mount Papata at Kuraraghara. Then the householder Haliddakani approached the Venerable Mahakaccana, paid homage to him, ...
