Re: meditation to improve one determination

the best way to improve your determination, in my experience is not to do anything mental, but to do things physical. humans have hands and feets we are not built to be blobs and do nothing, even monks work hard manually daily. something in motion is more likely to stay in motion than something stil...

let go focus on breath

is it always correct practice to let go and return to the breath? if i just let go of whats in my head let it pass, and come back to the breath, will that always be right practice? thank you, Metta, Befriend.

Re: Do Metta, Go to to Hell

why do buddhist teachers teach metta as a meditation practice then? is this sutra supposed to warn us about practicing metta? if so i havent heard any contemporary teachers try to stop us from practicing metta.

Re: Do Metta, Go to to Hell

i think it would be a good idea for us to ask our teachers instead of trying to decipher the meaning of this sutta for ourselves.

Re: Do Metta, Go to to Hell

i always thought it meant, you COULD go to hell after you spend time in the brahma realms from doing metta. the point that the author is making is that its possible to go to hell after being in a brahma realm. it would be nice to hear a monks take on this.

no past or future

Hi everyone,
what are some buddhist sutras that talk about how we should avoid dwelling on the future and the past? if there arent any sutras that talk about, are there any other commentaries on it? thanks. Metta, Befriend

kalamas sutta

Hi everyone, what is your understanding on the kalamas sutra where buddha says not to believe in anything if it harmful. i see a lot people saying "buddha said do whatever agrees with reason, common sense and is conducive to the welfare for all". but i also see people saying, "dont go by specious re...

middle path between determinism and choice
