Re: iPad, kindle or iPad-clone, anyone?

Battery life is obviously much better on a Kindle (Nook, etc.) than an iPad, and depending on where you plan to use the device that could be a major factor. When it comes to Apple vs. Android, it's mostly just a matter of preference. Try them out and see what you prefer personally. For me, a Kindle ...

Re: Gombrich

Books written about early Buddhism are interesting and entertaining, especially when like Gombrich's they are well written. But any historical approach to understanding the Dhamma is on shaky ground. This is something I've been wanting lately. While I'm an agnostic, I do own a Christian study bible...

Re: Kindle for dhamma books

Hello, I am considering buying a Kindle and have a question to the Kindle users: If the Kindle should get broken after some years, do you have to rebuy all books that were saved on it? Or can you just re-download them for free onto your new ebook reader? Btw: Maybe I will wait until the end of 2011...

Re: Cannabis

If it's so irrelevant, why'd YOU bring it up? Where and how is this the accepted norm? Why are you using a legal term in this arena? Are we in court? Where did I say cannabis use does not violate the fifth precept? what other time do you refer to? Completely irrelevant. When you want to challenge t...

Re: Pornography

The Socratic method doesn't just mean asking random questions. The Buddha said many times that his concern was reducing suffering. Many Buddhists' primary concern in their practice is reducing their suffering, and anything unrelated to that goal is simply not a concern. So in your opinion, how does ...

Completely irrelevant. When you want to challenge the accepted norm the burden of proof lies upon you.

So do you have good reasons why cannabis doesn't violate the fifth precept?

Re: Cannabis

...it's certainly not conducive to Right Mindfulness and Right Concentration.... Too easy: how, specifically, is it not conducive to these? Not everyone experiences the effects the same. I think the burden if proof lies upon you this time around. Tell how, specifically, it does not affect clarity o...

Re: Pornography

While it's not specified explicitly, I would think pornography is included in the seventh precept.

Alot of people like to read their own views into the Dhamma so that they can smuggly think that they know it all.............can you provide a scriptural reference that supports this statement?

And not from a commentary either, please.

Re: Emotional Unavailability

I need to work out if i would be happy with her the way she is. Someday you'll find that this was, is, and will forever be your only choice in any relationship. With your happiness in mind I hope you learn this sooner than later. The fun part is when you realize that you change and your partner wil...

Re: Someone hacked my Facebook account!!

Not sure if this is of any use or not but you can change your FB URL from HTTP to HTTPS in your accounts- security settings. But don't know if this does anything. Remember, I am somewhat computer illiterate. Their encryption is pretty marginal (because of bad programming), but it is highly useful t...

Re: Emotional Unavailability

I think it's important to note that there are numerous sects of Buddhism with different beliefs, and on top of that many Buddhists within those sects will have different interpretations. To put it bluntly, I don't think your plan is a sound one, both from a Buddhist perspective and from a relationsh...
