Re: Dangers of Marijuana

I believe that the effect of weed is very different from the effect of alcohol. If alcohol becomes dull, provokes aggressive behavior and disinhibits, then weed on the contrary stimulates creativity, the desire for knowledge and soothes (indica). If alcohol unambiguously provokes bad behavior, then...

Re: Can I still follow the path without being buddhist/religious?

There is a story of a monk who went to a holy mountain which was said to be the abode of Bodhisatta Manjusri praying and fasting and mediating for 7 years. He never saw Manjusri. But in the end when he was getting to leave, he saw an old dying maggot-ridden dog. Stricken with pity, he sucked the ma...

Possibly a realm called "Muddled Thinking," rather than extremes of torture, fire and brimstone!

Re: Guidance on Anger

. Hi ehensens, Why not get up half an hour earlier in the mornings so that you and your wife are washing at different times? Other than that, here are two talks you could listen to: "I am a Buddhist, why am I so angry?" from Ajahn Amaro: https://www.amaravati.org/audio/i-am-a-buddhist-why-am-i-so-an...

I don’t want to mention names

If it was a recording of a talk that you were listening to, then I can't see any problem with giving a link to it, if its out there already.

Otherwise if you can''t be more specific it just seems like unsubstantiated gossip.

Re: Veganism: a host of issues.

Anyone bothering to view this video will find that this is not what Venerable Dhammavuddho says, and will also struggle to see how the medical history of one monastic is relevant to the question of veganism. There are monks who have been vegetarian and vegan for a long time without ill effects. See...

Re: Veganism: a host of issues.

I've been a healthy vegetarian for most of my life and I've also had healthy vegetarian and vegan friends and colleagues during that time. If one is interested in a change of diet, Its worth reading some information from health professionals about maintaining a sensible, balanced diet: Vegetarian an...

There used to be a site that documented all the baby deaths, but it was taken down by the host provider recently. Hi Polo,

The part of your above post which has a quote about bowel movements etc which is below the short sentence of mine which you quoted :
(I'm vegetarian myself )
was not written by me. I think you've made a mistake with the formatting in your post.

Re: Levitation during meditation

If people can levitate, does that change anything about the nature of the Four Noble Truths? In this sense, it really is not worth your time. Perhaps some day you will attain deep states of meditation and who knows maybe you will incidentally find out that this also allows you to levitate, but that...

The old style British Beef pie or Chicken pie or Kidney pie use beef fat in their pastry crust don't they? They taste really good.
The pastry of traditional Engish meat pies was made with lard, which is pork fat,or with dripping, which is beef fat.
