Re: I'm really scared.

Having spiritual urgency is a good thing, but this statement is false, only stream-enterer or one who is on the path to stream-enter will be free from bad destinations, but you not need to be scared as long as you are going in the right direction. “Mendicants, a noble disciple who has four things h...

Re: I'm really scared.

If you are that scared, you must stop wasting time, and start to practice the dhamma! What are you doing?! 8 precepts, meditation, 8fold path, study, visiting monastery. Go! Also it might be a good idea to go to the doctor and talk about anxiety. James is wise, listen to him! I'd also say, fear of ...

Re: I'm really scared.

Dear kalyana.mitta, It is not surprising you have this reaction to the perils of samsara. It is really the only thing that is worth fearing. Yet the Buddha never encouraged unwholesome fear. I think there are various reactions to the teachings on the lower realms. 1. Try to ignore them. 2. Decide t...

Re: I'm really scared.

The Buddha taught " ottappa ", which means "fear of results of evil deeds", is one of five required virtues or "gates" to the Dhamma, together with mindfulness ( sati ), clear-comprehension ( sampajjana ), concentration ( samadhi ) & moral shame ( hiri ). Your fear about hell won't lead to hell; as...

Thank you. but like I said before no matter how much I practice precepts, read suttas, visit the monastery on a weekly basis,...

Greetings,

It’s probably best to stop watching videos about hell and to stop overly worrying about it. You don’t know what the future holds. If you keep your sila then you will find a pleasant abiding.

Metta

:)
Thanks. Is it still also wrong to watch these videos to get a fear of wrongdoing?

I'm really scared.

I just watched an animated video about hell and it really scared me so much. I've watched lots of these before too, and I've always got really scared of them when I was younger. I thought now that I'm older I wouldn't be as scared when watching these types of videos but I was wrong. I couldn't even ...

I have this idea what Christian hell looks like, but are there pictures, or descriptions of Buddhist hell, that are reliable, from Buddha, or good sources . . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8Y4wiCh7-o thanks for that vid. I remember being shown videos like this about hell when I was younger. It s...

Re: Is everyday karma?

Does everyone have the same way to enlightenment? In terms of the way to become enlightened, yes. You can only become enlightened by following the noble eightfold path. From reading different suttas, it is seen that some people attain stages of enlightenment just by listening to a few words, while ...

Re: Buddhism today compared to 2500 years ago

I wonder if it’s possible that things may have been added in, or there have been influences from other religions? I see a lot of similarities in the Vinaya and the Catholic catechism. Surely lots of things have been added in the present day which makes it harder for people to learn the true dhamma....

Re: Is everyday karma?

Let say i fully experience my kamma. Can i fall down to the same kamma or get even worser kamma? The choice is yours. Grasping that actions have consequences empowers you to go in whichever directions you desire. :goodpost: What does not fully experienced mean? Every action you do has a result(Kamm...

Re: Is everyday karma?

Sorry i ment can the same kamma come back again? if the kamma from that certain action hasn't fully been experienced, then that kamma will continue to affect you until the result of the kamma is over. As to when it will happen, only a Buddha or someone with psychic power can tell. It will either co...

Re: Sila of Sri Lankan Buddhist monk

Haven't seen the video either but I don't think monks are allowed to do that. But also consider that there are many false monks that wear robes just to get donations, food, respect from people. If that was a real monk that has gone forth, I don't think they would do such a thing.
