Re: Give up all your ideas first!

Dear Friends, there you have an old used PC and you like to make a beautiful 3D design with a new tech program. Would it be possible to make it? No, there are so many other programs, wrong dll's, autoruns, wrong installations... and if you delete the old programs would it be possible? No, there are...

Re: Nagarjuna as the true interpret of the doctrine?

Maybe Joseph Walser "Nagarjuna In Context" would be an interesting read for some.

Re: Role of Kamma

Here we go at least for the source: MN 101: Devadaha Sutta — At Devadaha {M ii 214} [Thanissaro]. The Buddha refutes a Jain theory of kamma, which claims that one's present experience is determined solely by one's actions in past lives, and that the effects of past unskillful actions can be "burned ...

Re: Role of Kamma

Some people I have spoken to believe Kamma takes the whole role of arbiter governing Samsara's physical laws, but I have always only known Kamma to be related only to "deeds" and then responses to those deeds(vipaka). I remember there was a Sutta where the Buddha says that Kamma isn't playing as mu...

Re: The "special sphere" in Vimuttimagga

If the 'special sphere' is referring to the the formless attainments, Why then is it called "sphere" and not "spheres"? I was hoping someone actually practiced this or knew from oral transmission or from other books what it was - if I should reflect upon it myself it would go something like that......

Re: Resources on Sarvastivada

Hi, The Abhidharmakośa is the root verses. The Abhidharmakośabhāsya is the commentary paragraphs interspersed between the root verses. The Tibetans consider the Abhidharmakośa root verses to be Sarvāstivāda and the Abhidharmakośabhāsya to be Sautrāntika. All the best, Geoff Oh I never looked at it t...

Re: Resources on Sarvastivada

@OP: There is Abhidharmamrtasastra translated by Migme Chodron freely available on the web. Abhidharmadipa and Abhidharmahrdaya have been translated altho they are sadly not downloadable. The Karma Chapter from Abhidharmahrdaya has been translated in a study by Wataru which is available for download...

The "special sphere" in Vimuttimagga

Hello, yesterday in the Vimuttimagga I read "The walker in hate who has keen faculties, being one endowed with wisdom, should practise the (meditation of the) special sphere. Thus should one practise and dispel hatred." Sadly "special sphere" is neither used a second time in the book nor defined - d...
