Re: "Venerable Buddhaghosa was a Hindu!"

just consider all the links you've posted. if buddhagosa speaks annata and annica, then he is not hindu. he had no wrong view and he even spoke of path factors etc No. There is no pervasion. You can speak of annata and annica and still be a hindu. I am hindu and brahmin by birth but in my community...

Re: Can you experience Form (Rupavacara) Formless (Arupavacara) states without Jhana?

Ven. Vijithananda argued that we are going through the form and formless state (Rupavacara and Arupavacara) just before you have fallen to sleep. The sleep is the result of suppressing five hindrances temporarily. If a person is overcome by five hindrances he will not be able to sleep. What is happ...

Re: Is Buddhism a death cult?

No. Nibbana is not attachment, and the full manifestations of sīla, samādhi and paññā are not attachments, nor a void. Not having any View is not possible within human life, even for an arahant. Nibbana is not necessarily always simultaneous with parinibbana; thus we have arahants, with whom we can...

Re: "Venerable Buddhaghosa was a Hindu!"

How can we trust Buddhagosa as an authority on Tripitaka though he wrote Visuddhimagga. He was a hindu scholar and philisopher. In what ways can we establish that Ven Buddhaghosa was a "Hindu?" Keep in mind, we will have to have read at least a single page of Ven Buddhaghosa's works, we will have t...

Of jhanas and gods, and 'The Root of All Things'. A sutta that describes meditative states, also. Let us examine what it says of the 4 Buddhist jhanas, since this thread is concerned with the requisites of 8-fold path only, nothing less, nothing more. Pulsar does not aim for the Brahma worlds. Abbr...

Re: Could bodhisatva still be reborn in hell?

Given that even the Jotipala, the very recent previous life of bodhisattva Gotama still make a bad action against the last Buddha he met (Kassapa), it seems bodhisatva can still reborn in hell if he doesnt pay attention to his actions. Can a niyatha bodhisattva (determined to be Buddha) still be re...

Exactly the problem. And what proof would satisfy a skeptic?
U cannot prove something u never cognized
Proving something you have cognised can be quite difficult, particularly with a skeptical audience.

Re: Rebirth admission would collapse modern science

I'm not sure, since science is essentially a method, rather than a philosophy. No doubt proof for rebirth would shake up the skeptics, just as proof for God would shake up the atheists. How would you prove God? Exactly the problem. And what proof would satisfy a skeptic? U cannot prove something u ...

Re: Is Buddhism a death cult?

No I think this is incorrect. :) I think this is incorrect, a myth. The Raft is left behind but that's at parinibbana. Otherwise arahants would disrobe, and they don't. If u hav right view u are attached to view so ita noy nibbana at all.. nibbana means ur concioysness dont land right view or wrong...

Re: Is Buddhism a death cult?

Nibbana is the extinguishment of Greed, Aversion, and Ignorance. But as I understand it, it is not Nothing, and it is not no View; it is Right View. Existence cannot manifes a true vacuum; so there is non-greed, non-ill-will, and non-ignorance in arahant existence. This is the full manfestation of ...

Re: Sperm Donation

Is donating sperm also dāna? It can be, though I doubt it would count as such if the semen were being donated merely for the purpose of impregnating someone. The Vinaya Piṭaka lists ten motives for masturbation on the part of males, of which three or four might be viewed as instances of dāna. 1. Fo...
