Re: Sammāñāṇassa and Vijjā

As evident from the sutta itself, the vijjā of SN 45.1 is referring to “a knowledge” as opposed to the “ignorance” ( avijjā ) of it. This knowledge is the knowledge of right & wrong ( kusala & akusala ) and the Path. To follow the Path, first, the knowledge of it is required. That’s why the Buddha f...

Re: Why right knowledge and right release only for Arahant?

Is that so? See below: The X + Y calculated does not prove the point. The path is long therefore it does not mean the stream-enterer has walked its whole length. Yep. People even shorten the Path, when they want to justify their supposed attainments. " atthikehi upaññātaṃ magga. " "The Path is born...

Re: Why don't we follow Noble Tenfold Path?

The higher the number, the more likely it is a product of more addition and editing. This is a theory i read from some scholar book. Which book i dun remember now. The more theoretical a dhamma is presented the less practical it will be, this is my view. It appears you are correct actually....

Re: Sammāñāṇassa and Vijjā

Sammāñāṇassa is right knowledge , what about Vijjā ? Are both different ? Both same If you read DN 2 (Sāmaññaphala Sutta), you can see, all the outcomes after the 4th jhana stated as ñāṇas including the final "knowledge of the destruction of the mental taints" (āsavakkhayañāṇa). Re: Why right knowledge and right release only for Arahant?

Why right knowledge and right release only for Arahant? Why this does not apply to others such as Sotapanna? Because right knowledge (9) comes from jhana (8). Sotapanna doesn't have one , as once-returner. Non-returner has it, but his knowledge is not yet perfect and complete. Is that so? See below...

Re: What exactly is Ekagata. (One pointedness)?

My understanding is that you and Ajahn Braham both have no confidence or faith in Abhidhamma. Curious, why they should have confidence or faith in Abhidhamma? If Ajahn had the knowledge of Abhidhamma he does not have to use the words such as wobble etc. Buddha advised to learn the Dhamma in one's o...

Re: Why don't we follow Noble Tenfold Path?

Why don't we follow Noble Tenfold Path? I just wonder why we instruct people to follow the Noble Eightfold Path, not the NTP? Because, Noble Eightfold Path is the " Path ". Right Knowledge and Right Release are the destination . We follow the Path and reach the destination. We don't follow the dest...

Re: Consider closing the Waharaka Thread

Best, I think, to respond to comments one doesn't like by a) courteously challenging them, if you think it is worth it, or b) ignoring them. Maybe other members are gaining something from that thread. Regarding the case that OP mentioned. Option "a" is OK for the sake of those who will be mislead, ...

Re: The teachings of Ven. Waharaka Abhayaratanalankara Thero

Therefore, it is quite clear that ānāpānassati, by itself, can lead to all the way to the Arahanthood. Thus, one does not need to do “separate vipassanā (insight) meditation AFTER getting to samatha with ānāpānassati” as some suggest. From the next bullet in that post: 3. The next key question is: ...

also the thing is even though it seems rubbish, their work on satipatthana and alternative definition of anicca seems to have helped me out quiet a lot. It is dissapointing to hear of such stories and statements. Looks like now i have to abandon the vehicle. I still appreciate them for helping me o...

Re: The teachings of Ven. Waharaka Abhayaratanalankara Thero

- All worldly things are without substance ( Anatta ). - Nibbana, on the other hand, has substance ( Atta ). “Sabbe sankhara anicca“ - all sankhara cannot be maintained to one’s satisfaction “Sabbe sankhara dukkha“ - all sankhara eventually lead to dukkha “Sabbe dhamma anatta“ - all dhamma are with...

Re: The teachings of Ven. Waharaka Abhayaratanalankara Thero

This practice appears to help attain the first three Arupa Jhana as an Anagami. (I am not sure of the Sutta support for this) AN 8.63 says, all four jhana s are possible from each brahma vihara s. Ven. says that the idea of the meditation is not to stop thinking (eg: Asannasatta). Thinking ( cintet...

Re: The teachings of Ven. Waharaka Abhayaratanalankara Thero

According to student of Ven Thero who is also a monk, he defined anicca as "insatiablity" Meaning that our 6 senses can never be satiated. We are ignorant of the nature of anicca (insatiability) and we think there is some satisfaction and gratification in wordly objects in our world thus we become ...
