Re: How to reach the 1st Jhana?

When I read Leigh Brasington description below I was shocked that it was ***identical*** to a wonderful meditation experience I had but have not since been able to reproduce. http://www.leighb.com/jhana3.htm This one? "In this altered state of consciousness, you will be overcome with Rapture ... Eu...

Re: Theravada in 2018

About OP: We have tha same problem about organisation like muslims - we have no any religious autority, so we have no organisation. There is good and bad point in here, but i think that all phenomenas are perfects in their conditionned existance - all is like it is; not good not bad, just conditionn...

Re: Tolerance

I agree... Some times i stop read some topic because posts become to aggressive, hostile, with intention to dominate the opponent, be better... We dont tolerate someone's position when it comes to distroy our little world, our constructions, so we feel pain and through ignorance this pain become ang...

Re: How to reach the 1st Jhana?

1) First jhana: "...abides in the first jhana, which is accompanied by applied and sustained thought, with rapture and pleasure born of seclusion". Here we see only pleasant factors, rapture and pleasure. This fits well with SN 48.40, because only PAIN ends here, not pleasure. Hmm... But if we take...

Re: How to reach the 1st Jhana?

Do you know Zom, if this ability have to be developped fully, or if for exemple you attain it once and then no more - it's still good? I dont remember if Buddha said about this... What do you think ? If you want arahantship, it has to be developed up to the 4th jhana at least, which mean...

Re: How to reach the 1st Jhana?

You are arguing without knowing what Buddha said on the matter. Why do that? Because he did say it is a a superhuman ability and a must-have ability as well. Do you know Zom, if this ability have to be developped fully, or if for exemple you attain it once and then no more - it's still good? I dont...

Re: Suppressing pain techniques

:goodpost: Thank you Dhammarakkhito ! I think this sutta is about the same mechanism but in a "whole", not only one spot... i dont know. I deal with chronic pain. My experience is the more you try to suppress or make it go away, the worse it gets. I focus on breathing into the areas with pain...
