Re: Is hatred always bad, if you hate what should be hated?

I want to thank Sam Vara and Nicolas, and I can now say that I agree with them that there is no room for hatred towards anything, let alone anyone. In such cases as I previously might have opined that "hating evil might be appropriate," I now believe that one should arouse equanimity instead and the...

Re: A happy new year

I don't have any resolutions, but I have great plans that I will have to start carrying out on January 1. Should be an awesome year for me and I am quite looking forward to it! For the world... I hope so, but politically it seems to be going downhill since Brexit and Trump's election. The worst I am...

Do plants feel pain?

I'll tell you a short funny story first. Back in February, I was in a park near Manchester airport. I had been walking through a huge field of grass, and I was only 5 metres away from the asphalt alley, when suddenly I wondered: "Hang on a second, does the grass underneath me actually feel pain when...

Re: Buddhism and alcohol

Alcohol is so disgusting and harmful as to be beyond belief. I've only tried a couple of glasses of a few beverages, just to try it, the taste was terrible, except wine. Overall, I've drunk less than 20 glasses of alcohol in my life, all in my teens before becoming a Buddhist. Drugs are even worse, ...

Re: Alone not lonely

Thanks Stephen your advice to just do good a few years ago was the catalyst in my recovery. Thank you. Without that I doubt I would be where I am today psychologically. Wishing you great fortune 😀 That's awesome, Befriend! I'm really glad to hear that. Now learn to be your own best friend, then you...

Re: Alone not lonely

You're never alone - you're always with somebody - with yourself! You need a good relationship with yourself, to be at peace with yourself, in order to not only not be lonely but - even more - to enjoy being alone and even find it preciously awesome, like I do! As I say, the trick is to be your own ...

Re: 30 hours without any sleep and counting

Greetings Stiphan, Either way, take care! I'm DJing back to back on the nights of December 30 and New Year's Eve, so I'm predicting a period of not much sleep for me soon. Thankfully I've managed to arrange the set times for December 30, so I'll be finished by 11.45 p.m. Unfortunately, on the morni...

Re: 30 hours without any sleep and counting

Had a good night's sleep. Went to bed at 10pm after a good guided sleeping meditation on InsightTimer and just woke up, it's 12:30pm.

Re: Best Anatomy software

Yes I agree, great app! Computers and tablets are amazing these days eh. Unfortunately the app just increased my appreciation for the miracle that is the human body, and was not useful for asubha at all. Glad you like it! Just remember that the body is impermanent, painful, and not-self, as well as...

Re: Abortion poll

if you asked should there be a central agency that makes decisions over anyone's life, then my answer might be no currently tho the government is definitely subsidizing and promoting abortion. kind of a eugenics program typed that before you responded and so got the prompt. well, that's not really ...

My logic is simple: male issues should be decided by men, female issues by women.

Since I am not a woman, and I said enough, I bow out.

Take care, friend.

Re: 30 hours without any sleep and counting

Stiphen if you are in the UK can call 111 NHS direct :) Just called them. Waited 10 minutes to speak to a professional. She asked lots of questions and then just told me to call the GP in the morning. My body is starting to slow down and ache, but still not feeling drowsy. Just a long warm shower a...

Re: Abortion poll

it reeks of chivalry that's why like, if i could do something unethical with my testicles, as in i could harm another being or take their life, it wouldn't make a difference that i was a man. anyway, how about the women who are pro-life? Likewise, men should make decisions about male issues - not w...
