Re: Armenian PM Sarkisian Resigns, Thousands Celebrate

But why try and use The Buddha's teaching to support killing? My last reply to your spams. There is a sovereign nation called 'Syria', in which the majority of the people support the government. There are outside forces supported & funded by Western nations, which the majority of posters on this fo...

Re: Armenian PM Sarkisian Resigns, Thousands Celebrate

And just to be clear I am 100% against the killing of humans. I have no love for US foreign policy, UK foreign, or Russian foreign policy. I would like you to show a post where I support the killing of Syrians. I think you are being dishonest. To be honest, my impression is of a Psychopathic Neo-Co...

Most of these theories don't come from me, they come from buddhologists, people who know the Theravāda and early buddhism better than all of us.
Sounds like blind faith to me; like believing in Catholic priests.

Re: Armenian PM Sarkisian Resigns, Thousands Celebrate

Thanks SDC Actually, its probably not relevant because I have had Mr Man on ignore for a long time now. If SDC did not post I would not have read your post. And Killing? My impression is your posts on this forum have often supported killing of Syrians by direct & indirect US military actions. The S...

Re: Armenian PM Sarkisian Resigns, Thousands Celebrate

Are you misrepresenting the Buddha's teaching when you say "from a Buddhist & humanitarian perceptive Putin's actions in Syria are good karma"? I doubt it. Defending society & families from terrorists is not against the Buddhist teachings. But sire, what are the noble duties of a wheel-turn...

Re: Antinatalism

Your "foundation" is good kamma, good kamma can be gained by anyone, even those with wrong views, so it doesn't have anything to do with buddhism. It is component of the Noble Eightfold Path. According to the Pali suttas: The Lion's Roar 61. And the Blessed One spoke, saying: "In whatsoever Dhamma ...

Re: Nirodha, could it be a fake attainment ?

1. Rapture and happiness don't mean anything, or rather they could mean way too many different things, so they're irelevant. 2. Calm depends on feelings, and equanimity isn't a feeling. 3. You don't enter legendary esoteric mental states simply through calm. 4. Still no link between Infinite Space ...

the first one as i recall is not exclusive to buddhism
The version explained in SN 22.79 appears to be exclusive to Buddhism.

Re: Antinatalism

Have you ever heard of jainism ? It was like the other big ascetic movement along with buddhism at that time, and it had a way more refined ethical code. Why don't you quote the Jain teachings to support your unsubstantiated trivial post? Thanks Anyway this 6 quarters thing has nothing to do with t...

Re: Dependent Origination and the Vedas

In the Rig Veda : 1. First there is nothing, not even existence or non-existence. This corresponds to ignorance. Ignorance in Buddhism is an "element" ("dhatu"; MN 115); an outflow ("asava"; MN 9) and the leader of unskilful qualities (SN 45.1). Therefore, in Buddhism, ignorance is obviously not "n...

Re: Antinatalism

The Buddha didn't really teach anything to lay people, he just gave them a bunch of moral codes... The Buddha said: "It is not thus, young householder, the six quarters should be worshipped in the discipline of the noble ." "How then, Lord, should the six quarters be worshipped in the discipline of...

Re: Nirodha, could it be a fake attainment ?

And still there is no logical link between Infinite Consciousness and Nothingness. The suttas are perfectly logical & coherent. Let me simplify it: 1. Calming the mind calms the body & breathing & gives rise to rapture (1st & 2nd jhana). 2. Calming the mind further calms rapture & gives rise to hap...

Re: Nirodha, could it be a fake attainment ?

Anyway, that sutta is the one where the Buddha attains Parinibbāna right ? Isn't Nirodha only mentioned once by Anuruddha ? Like I said the arūpa jhāna are mentioned countless times but Nirodha is only mentioned a couple of times, and since the arūpa jhāna serve no purpose other than to reach Nirod...

They practice breathing in immersing the mind in samādhi. They practice breathing out immersing the mind in samādhi. ‘samādahaṃ cittaṃ assasissāmī’ti sikkhati, ‘samādahaṃ cittaṃ passasissāmī’ti sikkhati; Unlike the Anapanasati Sutta, the suttas do not mention awareness of breathing in jhana. The Co...
