Re: Worry about kids - is there any way to avoid it, or is this just life?

When you wrote 'daughters out at night is not the Buddhist way', you verged on slander of me, as a parent. Certainly not. If this was imputed , I cannot apologise for this, even though I might be inclined to apologise. I merely posted sutta quotes & comments that shared & correlated with your perso...

Re: Feminism for men

So what? Men do that all the time. So what? If women do the same things as (ignorant) men do all the time, is this equality? Personally, I rarely associate with men. I think it is important to keep in mind that lots of the Feminism of the 1960s was about this, namely, if men can do drugs, drink alc...

Re: Feminism for men

Your point of view comes from a man, so of course it cannot accurately describe the actual lived experience of women. Sorry. My person experience as a 'man' is equally valid (although I regard it objectively as more valid) because I am one party in relationship with women & have my personal moral r...

Re: Feminism for men

Again, there's nothing really substantiable here. What is known is that gains in women’s rights haven't made women happier. Why is that? ... so I'd be very wary of suggesting that feminism (in contrast to egalitarianism) is actually reducing dukkha. Evidence from recent decades suggests otherwise.....

Re: Compassion in Theravada

In actual practice, I've been to a monastery (Amaravati) twice, and at the time I was suffering, and when one is suffering one can sense who has compassion and who doesn't. I personally didn't feel compassion as pervading that place. The people and the monks and nuns seemed very happy, wise, intell...

Re: Feminism for men

alot of women get paid less for having the exact same job as a man. This is a gender issue. Concrete examples, please? I personally have never been employed in a job where women were paid less than me. I have worked many jobs, such as: 1. Packing shelves in supermarket 2. Bar-tending 3. Retail shop...

Re: Worry about kids - is there any way to avoid it, or is this just life?

Doodoot, I find virtually all of what you have written, as though all you are trying to do, is seek to criticize, not in a helpful way, but as if to cast aspersions on either my faith in the Dhamma, or my parenting. I'm not a nihilist and I'm regarded by folks in real life, as a good father, but ju...

Oh, please don't just give me this nonsense about how we should all be non-hateful. What we need to be is smarter in our judgments.
Maybe you can consider starting with "disagreement" towards Trump rather than "hatred". Regards

Re: Feminism for men

Women face far more suffering, especially at the hands of men, than the other way around. You don't know what rape is. I don't either, and few men do - only those who've been raped by other men, but every time I hear about a girl being raped.. it's just I can't even put it into words, how disgustin...

Re: Feminism for men

I am deeply concerned about the various issues and struggles that women and girls face on a daily basis and I want them to achieve emancipation and equality and equity. I don't know if that automatically makes me a feminist, but I should perhaps do more than just feel concern. Perhaps speaking up o...

Re: materialism

curious why you say that is non materialistic Its sounds psychological to me, where it is taught there is a 'hell' at sense contact, manifesting as disagreeable feelings. This is why I called it non-materialistic . Where as the idea of a hell with spears, knives, whips, boiling pots & fires sounds ...

Re: materialism

Contrary to the materialistic view that hell is a material place with boiling bots & ovens, there are suttas that appear to plainly describe a non-materialistic view of hell, such as: I have seen a hell named 'Six Spheres of Contact.' Whatever form one sees there with the eye is undesirable, never d...

Re: Worry about kids - is there any way to avoid it, or is this just life?

I tend not to worry unnecessarily about my children. I see that worrying would not improve their welfare or the quality of my parenting, so I don't do it. In a world so full of assāda (bait), what is the point of worrying & thinking we can control things? Each individual is born with mentality to r...
