Re: Your top five religions (with a short reason)?

Isn't Buddhism core teachings teaches a pessimistic way of life ? It appears like that. But when you progress in the path you may start to feel that Buddhism is the most optimist religion. Many people take the wrong way. Especially the people in Sri Lanka. Perhaps it may due to the lowest gravity s...

Re: Gotama was first awakened as a sotapanna then straight to arhat

The sotapanna has eradicated all wrong view including self view, but not conceit. And the Buddha went though all stages including sakadagami and anagami , before attaining arahat. These processes can occur very quickly, with the right conditions. I was thinking if someone could refer me which of the...

Re: Gotama was first awakened as a sotapanna then straight to arhat

No. Sotapanna has not eradicated 'self-view'. The term 'sakkaya-ditthi' ('real-true-self-view' - refer to SN 35.166 ) does not mean 'self-view' ('attānudiṭṭhi' - refer to SN 35.167 ). Hi DD , from the texts you given both of it look the same ! https://suttacentral.net/sn35.166/en/sujato Sir, how do...

Re: Gotama was first awakened as a sotapanna then straight to arhat

Hello DD , what do you think is bond of being ? Any self-view or conceit. Another thing is , do you think the bond of sensual desire can be eliminated by mere jhanic attainment ? That's what the sutta appears to say. Therefore, what I think does appears to not be relevant, Possibly, you underestima...

Re: Gotama was first awakened as a sotapanna then straight to arhat

 Bhikkhus, one bound by the bond of sensual desire and by the bond of being is a returner , one who comes back to this state. One freed from the bond of sensual desire but still bound by the bond of being is a non-returner , one who does not come back to this state. One freed from the bond o...

Re: Paying taxes and second precept

What do you think those favored by laws exempted from paying taxes ? Do they not have greeds by exempted from paying taxes ? Do they have any kammic burden? No one knows for sure, but obviously those filthy rich top 1% who pay little to no tax must've gotten some pretty damn good kamma from their p...

Re: Paying taxes and second precept

Maybe it is YOU who is being rigid in observing rites and rituals . Don't forget that intention is what makes kamma what it is.....if a gov't is not spending its revenues fairly then if you avoided paying tax and instead invested the same amount of money in a project which provides what the gov't i...

Re: Your top five religions (with a short reason)?

World religion tree. https://000024.org/religions_tree/religions_tree_8.html Interesting that they put the origin of Mahayana earlier than the origin of Theravada. I guess the authors of that map are saying the Mahāsāṃghika is a precursor to Mahayana. Mahāsāṃghika is from about 285 BCE whereas the ...

Re: Paying taxes and second precept

It seems in a scenario where the rules set up and implement by certain group of enforcer favour certain category of people , those being favored by laws doesn't break the laws and enjoy the advantage hence for them no unwholesomeness necessitate . Whereas for those unfavored by l...

Re: Bhikkhu Akiñcano - "With the Right Understanding" (Phenomenological Explorations of the Pāli Suttas)

Ps . This is not criticizing but merely my understanding . Please share if you think otherwise . I think this is a mistaken notion . This implies that there is something there in the beginning which is not . All of this can only be there because mind is already there, given beforehand . The mind is ...
