Re: Book about Anattā - No Inner Core

Carefully read The Simile of the Snake ( Alagaddūpama Sutta MN.22 ). There are oodles more examples, but this one is the most direct. The linked suttas do not appear to contain speculative doctrinal expositions on the existence/non-existence of atta. If they do, then please make it more explicit. I...

Re: Sex positive movement

Even if such a thing were in line with the Buddha's teaching, the act of determining whether or not various worldly conceivings are in line with the Buddha's teaching seems not to be in line with the Buddha's teaching. I could be wrong. Agree. In the group I occasionally attend there is a lady who ...

Re: Book about Anattā - No Inner Core

Silananda Sayadaw was Burmese, so might come across as a bit doctrinaire. He was something of a heavy-weight (accomplishments, writings, etc.), though, and founder of the Tathagata Meditation Center, 12 miles from here in San Jose, California. If you're bent on dissing his interpretations, good luc...

Re: Book about Anattā - No Inner Core

"He proclaimed that He teaches anattà, that is, when He denied the existence of atta." Buddha never affirmed or denied the existence of such... A claim based on guesswork of the Ānanda Sutta ( SN. 44.10 ) no doubt. Is it yours or are you regurgitating the surmise of another? Hi ancientbuddhism, I'm...

Re: Book about Anattā - No Inner Core

The intro states: "He proclaimed that He teaches anattà, that is, when He denied the existence of atta." Buddha never affirmed or denied the existence of such. He wasn't into affirmation or denial of metaphysical speculation. It goes on to state: "In the absolute sense, the anattà doctrine denies an...

Re: White American fragility, Asian American Invisibility

I think if people of different backgrounds hung out together there would be less misunderstanding and tedious stereotypes. It's a mystery to me why being in an increasingly diverse and joined up world, doesn't really dent this isolation.

Re: What does the "Red Pill" mean

The article, that is linked to, is deeply misogynistic and the data is being used to justify misogyny. That is the bottom line. Correct. It's about as "objective" as early research into the cranial dimensions of various races. Wondering if these gentlemen are Red Pill readers: http://www.euronews.c...

Re: What does the "Red Pill" mean

Try just dealing with the arguments. Instead of accusations. I totally agree with you on the solid principle of this approach but for me anyone who states that women have lizard brains and never pay tax doesn't have an argument. As I mentioned earlier, Buddha nailed the human condition very nicely ...

Re: What does the "Red Pill" mean

In a now classical approach one would ask, are there any Sutta refferences to this? Smile Dhammarelax I appreciate the humour, thought I think a lot of suttas deal with this in one way or another. I think that the peer pressure on young people of both genders has been magnified in recent years. Soc...

Re: What does the "Red Pill" mean

So there does seem to be evidence for women (as a group) recieving more benefits... paid for by tax... and thus using the money they pay in. However, that is not the same as "women do not pay taxes (ever)". It is like the difference between wage gap and earnings gap. I would be interested in other ...

Re: What does the "Red Pill" mean

there are many videos which have scientific basis like women do not pay taxes (ever), Scientific? Okay, I'll tell my tax-paying wife, sister and mother that - see how I get on eh :guns: that women will never love you They do but love is a two-way street. If your best chat up line is something like....

Re: Strange Experiences in Meditation

For some reason this changed and the last few weeks I’ve been meditating a lot and what’s even more important: I’ve been meditating every day, not skipping a day. I guess i am trying to build up some concentration, eventually reaching at least access concentration. Sounds good. I think everyone's m...
