Re: Bay Area dhamma instructors compatible with Thanissaro/Lee

I would recommend ajahn Lee's book, frames of reference. If you write to wat metta they will send it to you. I believe it also has his meditation instructions.

Re: Classifications of dhammá

I am by no means qualified to give a reliable answer, but from what I understand it's a map of conventional reality. Albeit a very detailed one. Couldn't it be said that all of the Buddha's teachings are convention? Convention that leads to the unconventional.

Re: Float tank

Aww! I knew there were "entertainment parks" in the US where one can drive heavy machinery for fun, but I didn't know they had sensory deprivation tanks for entertainment/commercial use as well. Yes! There are actually a few within a couple hours drive from where I live (Michigan). They seem to be ...

Re: Point of focus for anapanasati

Observing the abdominal movements and watching the breath at the nostrils are two different meditation methods. The first is paying attention to the element of motion (vāyodhātu), described in the Satipaṭṭhāna Sutta in the section named “Kāyānupassanā dhātumanasikārapabbaṃ.” The second is mindfulne...

Re: Float tank

Does anyone have any experience with float/sensory deprivation tanks? I might try one this week. I'm wondering if I should just treat it like a meditation period and watch the breath. Is this as part of some scientific study? What do you mean? I'm just interested to try it and see what it's like.

Re: Will Bhikkhu Bodhi be translating the entire Khuddaka Nikaya?

If I recall correctly, in a talk I listened to he hinted that he was working on it, but didn't want to say too much. Unfortunately I can't remember which talk it was.

Focusing on breath only gets tricky when the breath become extremely subtle.
You don't feel like this puts extra tension on the eyes, or makes you feel cross eyed?

Point of focus for anapanasati

I was looking for some advice regarding the point of focus for breath meditation (tip of nose/abdomen). What is your chosen point of observation, and how reliably do you get into samadhi? I have always used the abdomen, and have only gotten into first jhana a few times, seemingly by happenstance. Bu...
