Re: My criticism of Nanavira and other "existentialist"

From: http://www.dhammawheel.com/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=28776&start=60#p413509 And many other such quotes. Saying "the world appears as real for one fettered by delusion" implies that one not fettered with delusion does not consider it real. :anjali: I lack a background in the work of Ven. Nanananda ...

Re: My criticism of Nanavira and other "existentialist"

Where did you get this idea from? From: http://www.dhammawheel.com/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=28776&start=60#p413509 And many other such quotes. Saying "the world appears as real for one fettered by delusion" implies that one not fettered by delusion does not consider it real. :anjali: There is also this...

Re: My criticism of Nanavira and other "existentialist"

And what happens with the body of the buddha ? In this case, what is the difference between nibbana with residue and nibbana without residue ? And yes, I know the 5 aggregates are not something real and don't really exist according to existentialist buddhist. This has been already discussed in this ...

Re: My criticism of Nanavira and other "existentialist"

It could be said that an arahant does not exist after arahanatship. Here is why. After arahantship the phenomena of self no longer arises and arahantship is an expression of phenomena of self so it would no longer arise....hence the arahant does not exist since the proper way to understand "exist" ...

Re: My criticism of Nanavira and other "existentialist"

I don't know why no one is answering. I just know why I am not answering. I have no history of dodging questions, but when a dialogue is this dishonest it is simply a waste of time to get involved. Just because you keep saying "no one ever responds" doesn't make it any truer. Not only have I respon...

Re: My criticism of Nanavira and other "existentialist"

Existentialist buddhist are well known for never addressing any criticism. Actually I have wasted more time dealing with criticisms than I have just talking about these ideas. As have many others. There is an appalling amount of evidence to back that up. Perhaps if you would have just asked these q...

Re: My criticism of Nanavira and other "existentialist"

Existentialist buddhist are well known for never addressing any criticism. Existentialist Buddhists are well known for advocating for existentialism, which you clearly have no clue about, not "never addressing criticism". Existentialism is not "inquiries into the nature of material existence". And ...

Re: My criticism of Nanavira and other "existentialist"

Your questions are all rooted in a pretty substantial unfamiliarity with the approach in question, and I 100% guarantee I will not be addressing any of it. Like I said, the point of this thread is too unclear, it started one way and keeps flip flopping. Sorry for interfering. I'll go. I was the one...

Re: My criticism of Nanavira and other "existentialist"

That is a great post Cownah. A great post about your understanding of pali language. And I agree an arahant should not disappear into thin air because we know Buddha, Kassapa, Sariputta and other arahants 5 aggregates continued to exist after attaining arahanthip. But I have asked about why the 5 ag...

Re: My criticism of Nanavira and other "existentialist"

My point is that you titled a thread "My criticisms..." but clearly have not done your homework. You want to critique it on one hand and then disguise your questions as curiosity on the other. Which is it? Either you've done a thorough enough review of the work or you haven't. Seems like you're che...

Re: My criticism of Nanavira and other "existentialist"

And yet neither of you has addressed what was written in the last post about how the aggregates work. :anjali: And of course none here has addressed why an arahant does not disappear into thin air in the 1-life interpretation. Personal comments are easy, comments regarding what the person says are m...

Re: My criticism of Nanavira and other "existentialist"

Greetings Mike, Sure, totally agree about perceptions. However, as you know, I'm skeptical about the idea that one's philosophy about external reality is of any particular significance. If such philosophies (I.e. views) do not contribute towards mistaking perceptions etc. for something more (or oth...

Thanks for suggesting me some books to read. As a response, I suggest reading the Sutta Pitakka books. :anjali: What I expected was...

Re: My criticism of Nanavira and other "existentialist"

Greetings, "The world appears as real to one who is fettered to delusion" (Ud 79). :buddha1: Metta, Paul. :) Quoting from Khuddhaka ???? I didn't even know what "Ud" meant at first sight. Aren't you a little ashamed of yourself ? Next thing I know you're quoting from Vissudimagga. :D As I have show...

Re: My criticism of Nanavira and other "existentialist"

and I've learned much reading through threads on his forum, particularly with an eye to posts from Retro and Nyana. When you have time, try to read the content of this topic. They were not too helpful with this question at all. I was not provided with any opinion and not even with a link of Nananan...
