Re: Wat Dhammakaya

[...] Teaching me after I insinuate that monks concinving people to donate is evil (it kind of is, no?)? Glossing over my mistake? Did you even read what Ven. Gavesako posted, which refuted your whole post/lecture? Dhammakaya is a huge organization which, whether or not you want to believe it, push...

Re: Wat Dhammakaya

[...] What someone (or in this case the leader of a large group) says and what people do are two entirely different things. Siphoning millions upon millions out of people (some even to financial ruin), and even having legal issues regarding very large sums of money—among other things—doesn't really...

Re: Wat Dhammakaya

The Buddha affirmed the kammic results of actions such as giving, which will indeed transport one to the higher levels of samsara, but he did not make that the central point of his teaching or suggest that one should be satisfied with that. Just on the contrary, he warned that monks will become lax...

A letter on the thai alliance of human rights website. Casualties are starting now. There has been a death. There is a picture on facebook of them bringing a TANK to the temple. Thai Alliance for Human Rights letter to US State Department about Crisis at Wat Phra Dhammakaya Dear Assistant Se...

Re: Wat Dhammakaya

I stayed at a dhammakaya temple. Free transportation, free books, free food, free place to stay. Never had to donate anything. Never got a letter asking to donate anything. It very much resembles Dhammakaya tendencies. A Thai friend of mine went to Dhammakaya once. It turns out that a monk would gu...

Re: Wat Dhammakaya

News update. The prime minister has been accused of treason for issuing the illegal article 44 to be used to forcibly take control of a property which doesn't belong to him. Article 44 hasn't been approved by congress and therefore it isn't legal. It is born out of the destruction of the legal const...

Re: Thai police raid Dhammakaya temple in hunt for wanted monk

Dhammakaya empire seen from the air (with some cost estimates) https://www.baabin.com/204298/ That's good. A giant expensive temple attracts millions of people to come practice the religion. Lp Dhammajayos goal is to get everyone in the world to practice meditation so everyone can attain inner peac...

Re: Wat Dhammakaya

Any way after I attended the intermediate course, I was encouraged to attend the advance course in their retreat centre in northern Thailand. I also received a letter from them asking me to donate $2500. It is just a request as they are building a new facility in Singapore that has a hall capable o...

Re: Thai police raid Dhammakaya temple in hunt for wanted monk

I was told the tunnel was actually a basement used for storing water. The dry season is approaching and if there is an underground facility for storing water right now it would be full of water from the recent rains in anticipation of the soon to arrive dry season. If the tunnels are for storing wa...

Hide and Seek http://www.khaosodenglish.com/culture/net/2017/02/17/dhammachayos-bed-not-meant-deceive-dhammakaya-says/ Thai cops have uncovered secret tunnels running underneath a space-age temple of the controversial Dhammakaya Buddhist sect, as their manhunt for an elusive elderly monk accused of...

Re: Wat Dhammakaya

News update. They want everyone out of the temple by 3pm. They seized recording devices from the temple members and the prime minister declared the temple to be under government control. The temple now legally belongs to the government. It has been stolen. All of the millions of dollars of valuables...

Re: Wat Dhammakaya

So it appears things have been happening again at Pathum Thani. As the only English news I can find is either from the Bangkok Post or the Nation I was wondering if it's true that Dhammajayo left the temple last Thursday and is apparently now in hiding? More importantly perhaps, if he was to face t...

Re: Somdet Phra Maha Muneewong appointed new supreme patriarch

The selection process for the new supreme patriarch was marked by rivalries, controversy, and disputes between the major monastic orders and within the government. In February last year, monks and army personnel clashed during a protest rally attended by thousands of monks against perceived interfe...

Re: Wat Dhammakaya

The people I respect most in the Thai human rights and prodemocracy movement all tell me that defending Wat Phra Dhammakaya [Phra Dhammakaya Temple] is the most important Thai human rights issue at the moment: That the very independence of Buddhism in Thailand is at stake; that not content with grab...
