Re: Are monks allowed to touch their mothers?

Thank you Bhante, you are obviously right. I should have said : Minor No that may become Major No according to the associated mental posture, especially if it becomes a recurring habit. The sutta goes on: Bhikkhus, does the foolish man think the mother would not crave for the son or the son for the ...

Re: The path to ordination

I am not ordained yet, but I have already booked my flight to a monastery where I plan to get ordained, so I take the liberty to add my 2 cents. I don’t exactly know when I really wished to ordain at first. I was especially put off by the attitude of nearly all the monks I was in contact with. I was...

Change bank to change the world... anyone?

I just learned that my bank (Société Générale) persists in speculating on agricultural products and is therefore primarily responsible for world hunger. I realized that better than trying to soothe the symptoms by delivering food to the needy, it is better to go to the root of the problem, stop supp...

Spain is officially becoming a police state

Next to no coverage at all in the media http://elpais.com/elpais/2014/12/12/inenglish/1418379884_767333.html If the law passes through the Senate, it will go into effect. The ruling Popular Party (PP) used its absolute majority to ram the controversial Citizen Safety Law through Congress on Thursday...

Sutta quotes about self-discipline

Hi everyone, I am looking for sutta quotes about self-discipline. The only one I have in mind right now is this one: So too, brahmin, Nibbana exists and the path leading to Nibbana exists and I am present as the guide. Yet when my disciples have been thus advised and instructed by me, some of them a...

Re: Is it bad kamma to watch cinema movie online?

one cannot compare walking on grass and watching movies online.

In the first case, there is a potential for altering the property of another. Not in the second case. Meaning there is no PREJUDICE at the individual level if one was not going to pay regardless of whether one sees the movie or not.

Re: Is it bad kamma to watch cinema movie online?

The right to view that movie from it's owner wasn't given to you. You have taken something that wasn't given. It is perhaps "taking what is not given" but so long as there is no prejudice, I do not think this is a serious breach. Human laws are not a reference for moral laws. I disagree. I have the...

They don't lose anything. Actually, they have never made this much money. They just figure they could make more.

Re: Is it bad kamma to watch cinema movie online?

Is there a breach of the 2nd precept if nobody loses anything? What if the producers of the movie, regardless of whether you watch it or not would not have made any money on your back? Are they really losing anything in the process? And besides, have they not already made their legitimate money? Hum...
