BPS Shipping

I live in the United States. I would like to order from the BPS directly, but I'm not sure about the shipping charges. Does anyone in the States who have ordered from them know if shipping rates are reasonable? And, if it matters, I'm in Illinois. Thanks.

Re: Zen and Advaita masters: all putthujana?

I think it's said, correct me if I'm wrong, that there are no Arhats in a path where there is no Noble Eightfold Path. This could apply to the remaining Ariya statuses as well. With Zen, or any other tradition of Buddhism, there is the Noble Eightfold Path. So, I'd say it's possible there are Ariyas...

Paccekabuddhas

To become a paccekabuddha, does one necessarily have to be a bodhisatta first?

Re: An American Buddhist Tradition

In America, we have Theravada, Vajrayana and all the other Mahayana traditions represented pretty well, as far as I'm aware. My two cents is to leave it at that. Personally, I like how there's a choice here. If you want Theravada, it's here. You don't have to go to Sri Lanka or Thailand anymore. If ...

Swastika on Buddha's chest?

Greetings all, According to Wikipedia, the swastika was allegedly stamped on the Buddha's chest after His parinibbana. Is this true? This symbol (right-hand) is alleged to have been stamped on The Buddha's chest by his initiates after his death. It is known as The Heart's Seal. This would predate an...

Kathina ceremony

Greetings all, Since I will be having contact with Bhante Rahula, where can I obtain a robe to offer him for the Kathina ceremony in October (I think it's October anyway, but I don't know the exact date). If it matters at all, he's Sri Lankan. I haven't set anything up with him, I'm just wondering, ...

Re: Cut off feeling.

Are there any bhikkus in America that do this? I highly doubt I'd get one, but it's still cool to know.

Re: Cut off feeling.

Greetings jc, I know it's not a Monday Buddha. But, what is the significance of wearing one, because I intend on getting one. I also found a Monday stupa. I like that quote too, actually. I do know it's not the Dhamma. I know the Buddha didn't teach these things. But, it's still interesting. However...

Cut off feeling.

Greetings all, I've been looking online at various Thai amulets (pendants, bracelets, yants, etc.) plus I found a video of a Thai temple. I've been reading (inculding the suttas), doing puja, meditating, collecting various Buddhist things. But, the thing is, I don't have a community. I don't know if...
