I believe the answer as far as dependent origination is concerned would be ignorance.
It is very clear that if one can get rid of clinging to desires (tanha) then the cause of next bhava ceases. That is where nirvana is explained as " no desires".

Re: Jhana VS Samadhi?

The Buddha clearly explained samma samadhi as the 4 jhana and samma sati as the 4 satipatthana. Why mix things that are already clear? Samadhi is best explained in samadhi sutta (AN 4.41) It explains that samadhi is development of concentration,, leading to pleasant abiding here and now, concentrat...

In any trade made for a living, right ( without Lobha Dosa moha) intention is the need. To fulfill the requirements of right intention without lobha dosa moha in any trade only arhat satisfy the standard . Agree , but that is where we need vayama or virya. Re: Remembrance of past lives

Remembrance of past lives is a personal matter. If you do able to remember your past live, please do keep it into yourself as other people has no ability to know whether what you are saying is true or not, or at least talk with someone with higher ability that can verify your story. Also samadhi is...

Re: Attachment to non-attachment

That's why self identity 'views' or 'beliefs' have to be deal with from the beginning. An attachment to non attachment to is a result of sakkaya ditthi. One who sees anatta clearly will not have such a vision or such micca ditthi. Hence with such an attachment one cannot attain even a sotapanna sta...

Re: You have to be an Arahant to become an Arahant!!

There is no link between reading suttas and realising Arahantship But there is a link with reading our minds and realising Arahantship I think people loose their time... By reading the tripitaka one cannot overcome avidya. The only path ( ekayano maggo) to attain arhantship is to follow the noble e...

Re: How four Brahama Viihara connected with the Jhana?

As I have written " Acc. to Ven Gunaratana metta, karuna and mudita may serve as a basis for jhanas 1-3." you should ask Ven Gunaratana. It would probably be easier & more proper if Ven Gunaratana was quoted from a book or video. Regards This is described on utube " what is jana by ven. Henepola Gu...

Why Buddha did not think he was insane? Generally, if someone to declare Nibbana for the first time today, s/he will be end up in a mental hospital. So what made him to keep his discovery so cool? More to the facts, how others did not think he was mad? The fact that lord budda is samma sambuddo and...
