Re: Noticing a decline in practice

I will say how it is for me. It declines when i don't meditate much. However it is always amazing when i start meditating because of how quickly it all comes back and progress is attained. I don't worry about it much and for me it does not seem to decline much anymore, even at my worst i am way bett...

Re: Stopping eating considered a suicide?

It is a foolish idea i had, as i said i think i find it burdensome at this point. I have no more human goals like children or wife, wealth or success even. As i see it i am just living out the rest of my time in Samsara. Like a person who attained immortality would not fear death i am sort of like t...

Re: Making sacrifices for our partners

I would not compromise such things, unless you enjoy it but then don't blame your wife for it. Think about it like this if because of these "sacrifices" you were to take another birth, probably in a different plane of existence than her, what would you tell yourself... Reality is that it is utter mo...

Re: Right intention... Wrong habits.

Welcome, Behavior is the last thing to change. Also drinking is not an evil and sinful thing that you should feel guilty about, it is not a wise thing to do and is very blameworthy because it causes heedlessness and disregard for right and wrong but it is not more than that. It is like making a very...

Re: Seeker not knowing what they are seeking!

Welcome! Second i want to advice having some sort of association with a teacher, not just studying on your own. Look for a teacher who is humble, seemingly free from greed and delusion, well-spoken and confident, one who is approachable for questioning. Association with someone who teaches true Dham...

"There is, monks, an unborn — unbecome — unmade — unfabricated. If there were not that unborn — unbecome — unmade — unfabricated, there would not be the case that emancipation from the born — become — made — fabricated would be discerned. But precisely because there is an unborn — unbecome — unmade...

Re: Buddhavacana

I don't see how this sutta is about verification. It is, among some other things, about awakening to the truth, and then attainment of the truth. That's not the same as verification. “There is the case where the disciple of the noble ones is endowed with verified confidence in the Awakened One:.. “...

Re: The Bodhisattva Ideal in Mahayana Buddhism

Is it not so that a person must resolve to become a Buddha in the presence of a teaching Buddha to have the intention of becoming a Bodhisattva confirmed by a Tathagata the same way as if one wants to become a Chief Disciple? I also heard that only a Teaching Buddha has the ability to know if the as...

Re: Buddhavacana

Where do the strong historical opinions come from, and how important are they? I am not sure what you are asking but i can say how i view the authenticity of certain texts. Take the Abhidhamma as an example. For relatively long time i believed that it was taught to Sariputta as i heard it from a se...

Re: Why 95% of us are not going to reach Nibbana. (Unless we do something about it.)

.. Well it seems like your friend was wise enough to verify that the Krishna path was false. It is not clear to me what your doubts are and i've found you to be rather withholding in regards to these things, therefore it is difficult to advice. However as i quoted in the other thread, one gains con...

Re: Buddhavacana

Would you say you felt you had to verify that this was the case before you could start the path? Did you verify it, and how? It was somewhat different for me. I had problems i wanted to fix and meditation was the only thing that seemed to work, so it was a matter of getting more theory behind what ...

If you have a predisposition to it i think it is a good to do things like memorization and learning Pali, however it should not come before formal training. In that sense i agree with the Sayadaw and say pick either Anapanasati or Mahasi method of Satipatthana meditation for formal training practice...

Re: Buddhavacana

In the suttas, there is the phrase "inviting verification" used several times. But what exactly is it referring to? Is it referring to what would be considered verification in Western secular critical thinking? I couldn't find any sutta that would confirm that. I think It refers to verified confide...
