Re: Illusional self enjoying cake

Mr Empty: I have listened to a dhamma talk... - 'nirvana is the end of becoming', and also 'empty out the tendency to activate the self'. Is it possible to indulge in the pleasures of life ( experiencing experience as a self whom is enjoying the present moment), thus temporarily activating the self ...

Re: What has humanity actually achieved?

What has humanity actually achieved? Humans have wiped out an incalculable and diverse number of animal and plant species. Massive deforestation, large scale destruction of rain forests, the list goes on. That is really the only achievement. Humanity is parasitic. We have been around for a relative...

Re: the great vegetarian debate

A food plan is a personal choice, vegetarians need to let it be, if you like the way you eat, fine, but don't push it upon others. You're not going to convince anyone. I follow a pre-agriculture food plan (for over 20+ years) but I could care a less if others do the same or not, I don't push it on a...

Yes, what?
Yes, bad thoughts create bad karma.

Re: the great vegetarian debate

So what is this vegan idea any way? Not to consume any animal products, no milk, no honey? Just grains, vegetable oils high in omega-6, soy, and other similar foods? But insect animals are still killed in the production of such foods, so I don't see how this leads to any special status. Even the Jai...

Do Theravada Buddhists also believe there is a 45 day window post death where the remaining aggregates of the person hang around until moving on the next life?
It is my understanding that there is no interposed stage between one life and the next.

Aloka,

You had said:
The Buddha is in my heart, not in an image that someone else has made.
So I posted that to be helpful in understanding my point behind bowing to the image of the Buddha, that's all.

Re: A few ethics questions re: killing

Right now we have fleas in the living room, and my mom is intent on killing them... Personally I would rather just let them bite me... I feel a bit out of touch with reality...

Aloka, I agree. That's why I wrote : It is what the image represents . People may choose to act how they wish . Some may be flippant, some may just see it as a trendy image, some may give little thought to it at all... I choose to bow ... :anjali: ไหว้ This may be helpful to you: "Bowing to the Budd...

Samseva,

Yes, good point, I need to use the emoticons / smile faces much more. I do have a touch of lightness that is meant to come through in some of my posts, I forget that it may not be easily picked up on.
