To note, or not to note.....

.....that is my question. I had been noting in meditation, but I am reading Eight Mindful Steps to Happiness, and Bhante G says he does not recommend noting, as it takes time, and everything happens so fast, I guess you'd be taking the focus off the present moment in order to think in order...

Re: What position do you use for sitting meditation.....

.....and as a follow up to the poll answer, do you feel using a chair has disadvantages? I use y=to sit burmese style but now use a bench for kneeling because my legs would go numb and cease up! quite interesting when the fire alarm went off one day. so long as the body is held erect any sitting po...

Re: How to search?

I see the suttas are already covered, so maybe I can be of some help with the memory issues. Dual N-Back is a free brain game you can play that will help increase working memory. I highly recommend it. sweet! Thanks for posting this link, I have the ADDs :quote: , and will try this today! :jumping:

Re: AVATAR- the Movie: Pros & Cons?

I don't like the film, not seen it, or anything like that, but it stole its name from a nickelodian aname style cartoon which is being released as a film this year at some point. it is based on eastern philosophies generally and the cartoon has many references to Dhamma so hopefully the Movie will....

Re: AVATAR- the Movie: Pros & Cons?

I enjoyed it very much, and think if it's watched for what it is, a sci-fi movie :alien:, it is fantastic. I think any cons regarding the films plot being unoriginal or overly simplistic characters or anything like that are easily outweighed by the pros of the amazing visual effects and all the cool...

Re: Did my Kamma make me write this?

That's the common understanding, yes. I'm not convinced that that's what the Buddha meant, though. well, we obviously exist, here we are, after all.....the thing with no part of the totality of "ourselves" being "self" doesn't actually mean that we don't exist, so.....maybe it is just something tha...

There is a variety of types of conditions which support and sustain volitional action(kamma). Conditions like Biological Physical Psychological And so ...

Re: Did my Kamma make me write this?

I just read the link and it really is confusing how right view is not anihilationism and also not eternalism. Doesn't something either cease to exist, or continue to exist? Indeed, as long as we hold fast to self-view, and perceive the mental and physical process as a permanent self, it is confusin...

Re: noticing thoughts after or during the thinking....

Welcome salty-J :hello: How long have you been practising? As your mindfulness becomes more subtle, refined, and concentration stronger you can get to a point where is can "feel" a thought start to arise.... Yes, I can only do this reliably in a retreat situation, and only after 3 years of practise...
