Re: Global Warming: Recent Data

If we did a poll I wonder how western Buddhists would answer this question: True or false. There is a strong consensus among scientists that as a consequence of anthropogenic climate change we will see more tropical cyclones (hurricanes). My hypothesis is that a majority would answer true. Whereas ...

Re: MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT: Forthcoming Changes to the DW Forums

The only world that matters is the world inside your mind, trying to fix the world outside your mind is like trying to stop the flow of the ocean. You have no control. The dhammapadda says in conquering your mind you conquer the world. Politics is a waste of time, there were problems 3000 years ago...

Re: MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT: Forthcoming Changes to the DW Forums

Re: Dhammawheel is not growing - because it has zero SEO

Could the search algorithm vary for different countries? My google for Buddhist forum returned Dharma Wheel as no 5 and Dhamma Wheel as no 7. Yes, it depends on your location, and can also depend on your interests, especially if you use a lot of google services... Best to test with a browser where ...

Re: Dhammawheel is not growing - because it has zero SEO

I use DuckDuckGo for searches and got the same (lack of) results for "buddhist forum" but the site was high on the list for "theravada buddhist forum". "online buddhist forum" got me a few blasts from the past - references to e-sangha and Ed Ng's "Cultural Studies and Matters of Faith: The Case of D...

Re: MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT: Forthcoming Changes to the DW Forums

I meant the more impassioned bits like sad rants about things the Buddha wouldn't really have a hand in discussing ie. gossiping about celebrities, kings, and politicians, or things like starbucks, and America-trashing for fun blather. Embarrassing stuff. Oh wow I check all those boxes .. at least ...

Re: Dictionary.com is dumb and dishonest

And a dictionary compiled by a team of academics is smart and honest, and authoritative? Why -- can you justify your reasoning here? That's not my reasoning. So, no, I can't. I also would have assumed that there is probably a team of academics working for dictionary.com. But I'm not sure. Assuming ...

Re: MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT: Forthcoming Changes to the DW Forums

Will the engaged Buddhism forum be a separate web site? That's strongly implied by, "To complement the highly successful Dhamma Wheel: Theravada and Dharma Wheel: Mahayana & Vajrayana forums, we shall be launching a third Dhamma Wheel forum entitled Dhamma Wheel: Engaged Buddhism," which suggests t...
