Re: Describe Meditation in one sentence

Meditation, in the Buddhist context, consists of right effort, right mindfulness and right concentration which are the 3 factors of the Noble Eightfold Path leading to total liberation.

You may like to read his CV at his blog:

I believe Graeme Lyall has been very active to propagate the Buddhadhamma in Australia in the past 50 years.

Re: Bhikkhuni Ordination performed - by Ajahn Brahmavamso

A few years ago there was a monk called Phra Bodhirak. He was naughty and did a few things the sangha authorities did not like - eg. ordaining monks when not a licenced preceptor or qualifying under the vinaya (ie before he had 10 vassa). Although he never broke any of the 4 parajika precepts he wa...

Re: Bhikkhuni Ordination performed - by Ajahn Brahmavamso

where is the original? That is my question as well. In the internet age, anything can be faked and just self-referenced. With this in mind, IF this turns out to be the "real" WPP approach, well, I guess I will say a few words on this matter later ;) This is what I know: - The original news posted b...

Re: Why one meal a day?

When I am attending an organized meditation retreat (10 days) or self-retreat (2-3 days), I try to observe the 8 precepts (including the precept of not eating after mid-day). However, due to illness, I need to eat something before taking medication in the evening. Usually, it's a slice (or 2) of bre...

Re: Beef?

also mae kwan im (kwan yin) plays a part in why a lot of thai people dont eat beef. I agree. I've met some Thais who don't eat beef (cow, buffalo meat), and I believe they're originally from the Chinese ethnic group, and are influenced by the Kwan-Yin sect. I think Ven Punnadhammo (Canada) has written a good summary on the current issue, in his blog:

I tend to agree with most of his conclusions.

Re: How does Buddhist cosmology relate to mundane experience?

Hi all I believe we should differentiate 2 general terms here: (1) The Buddha's cosmology: ie the cosmology as mentioned in the suttas, in the Buddha's time. I believe this cosmology is shared by the Indians at that time, both Buddhists and non-Buddhists. The Buddha did not declare that He found any...

Re: Buddhist Cultural Centre's Bookshop in Sri Lanka

Greetings, The BuddhistCC is, then, apparently a legitimate enterprise? Yes, though I think they've got a thing or two to learn about customer service and website maintenance. I was there, visiting their office and bookshop in February 2006, during my pilgrimage trip to Sri Lanka. It's a nice place...
