Beginning to notice family is also to be let go

I'm beginning to notice that I also cling the most to my family. I don't know if this kind of thought is appropriate for mindfulness but the more i think of my family the more I suffer. I sometimes imagine my mother and father passing away and thinking there will never be a person that can love me t...

Lacking Samvega/motivation

Hi, Im back from college and currently in house. Staying at home and playing games with friends is really making me guilty. Ever since i got home, i've gotten so lazy and have been just playing games and doing nothing. I stopped meditating and practicing mindfulness. I've stopped reading books. Sigh...

Re-evaluating my practice

So I've been practicing buddhism for about 5 months so far. I read about 6-7 books on various authors such as bhikku, ajans, and etc. Right now I want to know if my own practice is either on right path or digressing? Mindfulness For this, I know that I must be constantly on alert, always being aware...

Re: why do we even have to suffer in first place?

why are we so inclined to suffer anyway.... whats the intention behind it...? I think that's an excellent question, Ryan, but it's one that other people usually can't help you with. What were your intentions, and what are they now? One discerns wrong resolve as wrong resolve, and right resolve as r...

Body awareness/scanning

Is this step all that important? I find really hard to concentrate when i scan my body or somehow try to fill my body with breath sensations from skull to fingers, toes, and spines. Why is this step important and why do so many teachers emphasize this step? I'm not really sure on this method. Im cur...

Re: My parents are deathly afraid

If your intention is to remain in lay life, maybe you should reassure your parents that this is the case. Try to assuage your parents' worries. Be kind to them. If you don't mind saying, how old are you? Im 20 Thanks. ~~~ I hope you don't mind my asking a few more questions in order to get a cleare...

Re: My parents are deathly afraid

Based on what you wrote your father said, maybe you are not doing too well in your classes right now? If so, perhaps work harder at improving your grades and finishing your course of study with good grades (if it is high school) or even completing your degree (if you are a university student). That...

My parents are deathly afraid

So I've been focusing a lot on meditation and theravada in general. They see me how I meditate 1 hour a day and how I'm reading lot of books on noble eightfold path. They are afraid I may join a monastery and leave the society for good. In general, they are scared that I won't fulfill my responsibil...

Harmful to abstain from media/games/any forms of pleasures?

So i've been recently cutting down my internet browsing. Forums like where useless discussions occur about their lives, sports, games, and etc. I have been currently abstaining from these activities. The reason for this is that I've noticed how these discussions often appear in my mind and I identify wi...

What do you think of this?

So I've been following jiddu Krishnamurti for many years. I read many books on his ideas and his experiences. I believe he is enlightened. He challenges the flaws of buddhism and meditation. I've just started go deeply into meditation/buddhism despite this because like buddha, he told everyone to co...

Re: Body scanning during meditation

How'd i go about finding that? People have told me to google. But what kind of teachers who teach purely on eliminating suffering through original buddha's teaching? Seek out some live people and see what fits you. In my experience, there are many living teachers out there, lay and monastic, unknow...
