Re: Ingram, et al - "Hard Core Dharma" & claims of attainment

What destroys true Dhamma is counterfeit Dhamma. Buddhists like Dan the arahat are not dangerous at all in my opinion as anyone who has even glanced over the Tipitaka can see how far away he is from any realisation. His counterfeit is at the level of monopoly money, even a child knows it is not real...

Re: Ingram, et al - "Hard Core Dharma" & claims of attainment

I enjoy how this thread highlights the strategies people use to discern authentic Buddhist teaching and method. There seems to be a dichotomy formed between people who highly value the views and opinions of impressive teachers and their accomplishments, and those who see the text as the only author...

Re: Samma samadhi: Sujin Boriharnwanaket

[. I know that I have the part about samattha right. Ajahn feels that samattha cannot be intentionally developed, that only people with very high accumulations can develop it and that it sort of naturally arises or happens for them. I Kevin I would say that is a pretty big misrepresentation. If she...

Re: Samma samadhi: Sujin Boriharnwanaket

I think an important thing is to establish that there are various types of concentration that are samma –right, and if we can agree on this then to establish which are part of the noble eight-fold path leading out samsara. There are several suttas that give the 4 rupa jhanas as right concentration, ...

anatta and cetana and conditions for right view

Matthew kosuta said that according to Sujin Boriharnwanaket, " As per standard abhidammic theory, she teaches “wholes” do not exist; they are concepts (pannatti) and anatta. Likewise, the paramattha dhammas of citta, cetasika, rupa, and nibbana are also said to be anatta as their impermanence overri...

Re: Samma samadhi: Sujin Boriharnwanaket

The Visuddhimagga does say that: it suggests that for most people it is not some momentary and easily to obtain concentration but something that may have to be developed in a retreat setting. . Please quote where exactly the Visuddhimagga says this . the Susima sutta the Buddha explained about sukk...

Re: Sujin Boriharnwanaket: teaching's diverge from Theravada?

there seem to 3 points you are bringing up: 1. a Matthew kosuta (not sure who he is: is he the person you referred to on teh otehr thread who has 'an informed opinion"?)said that according to Sujin, "Cetana as a cetasika is said to only arise, as with all paramattha dhamma, due to “conditions and a...

Re: Samma samadhi: Sujin Boriharnwanaket

Hi RobertK Check out Analayo's Satipatthana sutta commentary, pg 73, where he gives citations to suttas that do not mention jhana as part of right concentration. :anjali: as I don't have the said book that is hard. However, as my first posts also gave definitions where mundane jhana was explained a...
