Re: Myanmar: the state mocks its own religion

Salman actually... Salmon is a type of fish and I don't know what is Salmond. For me, insulting a religion is a pretty meaningless term. There is nothing that specifically gets insulted. So unless the insult involves calls to violence against some group of people, threat or slander against ...

Re: Spread of Buddhism to East and Southeast Asia

Ephairos, I have a feeling that Buddhism and Zoroastrianism are like grandsons of the same religion (Proto Indo-Aryan polytheism)

Thanks. I thought Buddhism spread to China from India first...?

Re: Seeking ordination 2: the revival of the aspiration

I´m not interested: on sectarian teachings, exclusive sectarian meditation techniques and hierarchies, nonsense cultural rituals (by that I mean some places where they say you should just follow this teacher, follow only this teaching and only this kind of meditation, discourage other traditions an...

Spread of Buddhism to East and Southeast Asia

How exactly did Buddhism spread to East (China, Korea, Japan) and Southeast (Burma, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia) Asia?

Re: Buddhist response to Muslims

The issue here runs much deeper than Islam. The real problem is Semitic monotheism. As long as you have an ideology that refuses to admit that the existence of other deities, practices etc are valid, we'll never have peace. Islam is simply monotheism on steroids and Christianity a theological Troja...

Re: Letting go of attraction?

What kind of effects should I expect after practicing vipassana for some time, for example one year? Will I have the potential to control my emotions more easily? I realy want all my attraction to that girl to go away.

Re: Buddhist response to Muslims

I share the view of some people on this forum that Islam cannot be reformed. Any attempts of doing that not only will not be successful but they may even result in a death sentence for an aspiring reformer (as in case of Bab, Rashad Khalifa or Mahmoud Muhammad Taha). The founder of Islam was a bruta...

Re: Buddhist response to Muslims

The two terrorists are now dead but the third one killed 4 hostages. May they rest in peace. :candle: I am 100% convinved that talking to terrorists or terrorist sympathizers is not an option. All arguments thrown at them (appealing to reason or emotions) are simply deflected from them. They keep re...

Re: Buddhist response to Muslims

Why do all such discussions end up the same? It looks that not a single discussion about Islam vs Christianity can exist without someone at some point of time bringing up the topic of violence in the Old Testament, Crusades, Inquisition or something similar. Even if someone proved that Jesus indeed ...

Re: Buddhist response to Muslims

My suggestions to those Muslims who can't stand sharia but want to believe in God is to embrace either Baha'i Faith or Sikhism. Both are strictly monotheistic and possess essentially the same philosophocal framework as Islam while at the same time not sharing it's faults. Both also recognize Muhamma...

Re: Letting go of attraction?

I met her several years ago and was literally overwhelmed by her beauty and charm. My attraction to her decreased considerably since then but not completely. I still treat her like a measuring stick of what woman should be like.

I want to lose all interest in her altogether.

Re: Buddhist response to Muslims

Well, once their eyes are opened, it would be really hard for them to become terrorists. EXTREMELY hard. But if they remain in ignorance, their chances of turning to violent jihadism are higher. I believe most European jihadists currently fighting in ME come from moderate, non-extremist families and...

Letting go of attraction?

There is a girl whom I'm attracted to since a long time and whom I don't want to be attracted to anymore. I simply don't want to feel any attraction to her at all.

I am not advanced enough in my Dhamma practice to simply accept the situation as it is. What to do?
