Re: The Dhamma and Science

I think the dhammic perspective on science would always be incomplete unless the dhammic perspective on history is clarified. Modernity is defined in terms of embracing the laws of nature as known through empiricism, and letting go of a more ancient way of understanding phenomena as per the religiou...

Re: Guarding against the nonchalance of the worldly attitude

What you call worldlings still demonstrate the dhamma even when they do not practice it as a path. For them, anatta manifest as "plausible deniability" through a measure of "reason". For example, birth as a condition of old age and death does not criminalize parents for the act o...

Re: Venerating the Dhamma as the Impersonal Divine Cosmic Order symbolized by the Thousand Spoked Wheel symbol

Samsara has no discoverable beginning = samsara has an infinite past. Infinity cannot be defined or 'found', if you are confused by this thats your problem not the Buddhas fault. There is no confusion from me. If infinity cannot be defined or found, then how did you find it? The dhamma is well spok...

Re: Venerating the Dhamma as the Impersonal Divine Cosmic Order symbolized by the Thousand Spoked Wheel symbol

This is what is stated. Of course if something truly has no beginning, one would only be able to say it had no discoverable beginning, since there would never be a possibility of 'reaching' to verify a non-existent first point. Only if there was a beginning would it be definitely confirmable. To co...

Re: Venerating the Dhamma as the Impersonal Divine Cosmic Order symbolized by the Thousand Spoked Wheel symbol

It doesn't. If you have any familiarity with the Pali Canon you will see that all beings come from an infinite past without beginning. Yet samsara can come to an end. So something can be infinite going into the past yet can come to an end. Then please demonstrate your familiarity with the pali cano...

Cause_and_Effect wrote: Thu Mar 21, 2024 3:16 pm Infinity can go both ways. Something can be infinite going into the past, and yet can still come to an end.
And how would going infinitely into the past come to an end? by finding a cosmic divine template of some sort that infinitely produces fake copies of its originality?

Re: Venerating the Dhamma as the Impersonal Divine Cosmic Order symbolized by the Thousand Spoked Wheel symbol

No it wouldn't be impossible and it isn't. Samsara and paṭiccasamuppādo has no beginning. Yet it can have an end. Infinite regularity refers to the infinite cycles of time that beings have wandered through the 31 planes according to their kamma. How can anything infinite have an end, when infinite ...

Re: Venerating the Dhamma as the Impersonal Divine Cosmic Order symbolized by the Thousand Spoked Wheel symbol

Even the sutta you posted contradicts your own statement. As its says "this property stands, the regularity of the dhamma, the orderliness of the dhamma". The sutta does not make a distinction between a fixed order and an infinite regularity, they are the same. It rather reveals your bias...

Re: Venerating the Dhamma as the Impersonal Divine Cosmic Order symbolized by the Thousand Spoked Wheel symbol

But I am not speculating. I am simply emphasizing and pointing out the vision that the Buddha described. Maybe it is not often emphasized, but that doesn't turn it into speculation. I challenge anyone to refute that what I am saying is not inconsistent with Nikaya Buddhism. The Buddha is describing...

Re: Buddha appear lagging behind Jesus & Mohammed

This poem was written in 1006 CE by Turkic scholar, Mahmud al-Kashgari, celebrating the Islamic conquest of Khotan. Khotan was a Buddhist "Saka" kingdom located in present day Xinjiang, China. Yes, Xingjiang was once Buddhist. Do I need to remind you of all the Buddhist lands that was tak...

Re: Venerating the Dhamma as the Impersonal Divine Cosmic Order symbolized by the Thousand Spoked Wheel symbol

And yet a clear structure and principles of cosmic order are described throughout the Canon. It's really just a matter of emphasis. Dont mistake the Buddhas silence on the implications of this as some kind of philosophical denial of positions such as pantheism and panpsychism. The emphasis on Nikay...

Re: Buddha appear lagging behind Jesus & Mohammed

There are many Muslim clergy nowadays attacking eastern spiritualities and linking them to new age movements and other heretics. Some consider them demonic altogether. Nowadays? Yes, with the increase of Yoga centers and YouTube channels in Arabic that promote new-age-inspired spiritual ...

Re: Pornography, Masturbation and Sex Addiction - Dharma helped?

Now I live the first time in my life celibate since 32 days. That seemed really impossible (!!) for me, before that moment I watched the video. ... I am not kidding: I never felt so good like in these days. In this month I was thinking a lot about my past. I had a lot of bad experiences in relation...
