Re: Have I understood Non-Self correctly?
I dunno if you've understood anatta correctly. And no matter how you described it, unless you described it poorly, that would be my answer. What I can say is that it sounds like your practice is strong. And as tilt mentioned, be wary of clinging to conditioned things. Your post brought to mind a ta...

Re: Have I understood Non-Self correctly?
At this stage in my practice, non-self might be more clear to me than before. As I see it, everything is just a collection of impermanent parts interacting together. There is no "person" or inherent entity in there, just parts interacting. What makes these parts come together to form some...

Re: Have I understood Non-Self correctly?
Could you expand on what you mean that this is a start? Is there a more complex or deeper version of this concept that you understand? A couple years ago I was in a deep meditation, maybe a jhana because some have assured me it was, but I had zero feeling of self and saw very clearly the arising an...

Re: Have I understood Non-Self correctly?
Hello all, I may have reached an insight, but I want to hear your opinions on it's validity before I meditate on it further. At this stage in my practice, non-self might be more clear to me than before. As I see it, everything is just a collection of impermanent parts interacting together. There is...

Re: Complicated issue I'm facing with meditation and mindfulness
Be the one that knows. That's all there is to the present moment. Just know what you're experiencing. You are too worried about fitting into a definition or a complicated explanation of what right practice is. Start simple, your practice will define itself.

Re: no more silence in the mind
Well in my experience, I was very skilled in samatha meditation from the get-go; able to shut off all feeling in my body within a minute or two, and one time getting into what at least felt like a Jhana. Then at some point I couldn't concentrate even for a few seconds! When I was able to do samatha ...

Re: I want to better understand unselfish joy
I can't give you any personally tested advice on how to parent as I'm but a mere 20-something year old without any children. However, I was given the Dhamma by my mom. Maybe I would have had a better mind if I had grown up with it, but I don't really know. What happened to me was that I grew up chas...

Re: How did you come to Buddhism? (poll)
I came into Buddhism because of suffering and a gift from my mother. LIFE STORY ALERT: My first two years of university started by losing all the things I depended on for happiness my whole life. Making friends and finding a new girlfriend was proving impossible. I never had to make friends, I just ...

Re: What's the purpose of vipasana?
When I first started vipassana, insights came to me easily. Insight just happens like a flash of light and excitement pretty much out of nowhere. It will happen with you too, don't give up! If anything, your desire for insight can be the meditation object. What does it feel like? How does it affect ...
