Re: giving alms to monk and the poor
For 13 years, I sponsored three children in Africa and also gave donations to three environment organisations, which amounted to around $2,500 per year. During that time, I probably donated $500 in total to two Buddhist organisations where: (i) the Abbot of the $X million monastery disrobed; and (i...

Re: Issue with other schools of Buddhism
Mahayana schools take sutras such as the Lotus Sutra and the Mahaparinirvana sutra as the word of the Buddha. In Vajrayana, one's guru is to be looked upon literally as a living Buddha. Both schools have belief in many Buddhas and Bodhisattvas such as Avalokiteśvara and Amhitaba. There's also the c...

Re: What is No-Self?
in a talk by ajahn brahn, he trick the audience(as well as I am while watching online) by perpusely twisting some words so we could pay close attention, he then say "have you aware of subsides of the self, left only awareness, left only my voice" if so, then its good, why would you want to...

Re: Where is God in Buddhism?
I would see God more as the Dhamma, and the source of the Dhamma There is no foundation for that idea of god in the Nikayas or anywhere in the Theravada, lyndon. Perhaps influential devas, if you like. You know full well devas are not the highest beings spoken of by the Buddha, he also speaks of go...

Re: Where is God in Buddhism?
Belief in a god is not a guarantee of morals/ethics. I am not advocating that people do not believe in a god, but history has shown and continues to show that such a belief is not always for the better. I agree with you fully. In fact I will go further and say that belief in God (as a Creator entit...

Re: Where is God in Buddhism?
It's not about denying the Great Brahma, and the devas. It's about denying that we are under the influence of an all-powerful creator God. In some of the suttas that Tilt quoted above the Great Brahma thinks he is an all powerful creator. What Tilt is particularly concerned with demonstrating is th...
